Here's the issue:

Present: It's okay, serves it's purpose for the majority of the challenge needed for the good ending.
Past: Cool and again, necessary for the challenge of the good ending.
Good Future: Pretty cool and a good feeling of accomplishment if you meet the requirements of the good future.
Bad Future: Literally filler and pointless to visit except for a remix. Honestly I'd rather have another zone or two instead of bad futures.

Sonic CD kind of reached a deified status for years, because most people didn't fucking play it. You either needed a Sega CD, or a PC copy. Also doesn't help that a lot of the critiques for the game became muddled due to debates over which soundtrack was better. Now you can play the game on anything, with Christian Whitehead's version allowing you to pick and choose the OST.

For all it's flaws, it's still a solid Classic Sonic title.

user, the level design practically chooses when you time travel, there are bumps and cheap shots stopping you from successfully time travelling everywhere.

As a kid I was a fan of 2d Sonic games and missed a lot not having a Sega CD to play that Sonic.
Years after when I emulated it on PC couldnt believe how bad it was. Terrible level layouts and bosses. Sure, great OST an it had that race with Metal Sonic but clearly inferior to Sonic 1-3

Always curious about what R2 could have been like, aside from the one bit of concept art of it and the removed badniks. If i had any experience coding, I'd make my own version of it.

To be fair, that's the problem with most people who whine abotu Sonic games. They're shit at it and refuse to git gud and learn. It's the same reason they hate good fighting games.

You have to think how to use the level design at your advantage, to properly time travel.
If you are that bad, you can do the special stages to collect all the chaos emeralds, to automatically have the good ending/futures.
Seriously a 10 years old zoomer could finish this game with a good ending, you are just saying bullshit.
