Wow game. I wasn't aware that going on a murderous rampage fueled entirely by revenge was morally wrong. Thanks for that very insightful hot take.
I'll be honest, this game is great but the story fucking reaks. The gameplay and presentation are leagues above anything I've ever seen but the plot is down right juvenile.
I'm fine with Ellie going crazy to avenge Joel (even if revenge stories are stale as fuck) I can even totally believe that Ellie as an adult is a Rambo badass.
What I can't believe is the astronomically insurmountable odds that 3 people could rampage their way through thousands upon thousands of trained soldiers to kill basically one person who they are having a hard time tracking down. The fact they think they could succeed at all is beyond insane. I don't care how much you want revenge. Eventually you have to consider the odds and then pack the fuck up. Especially when most of the time those 3 people are working alone.
Contrast that to TLOU 1 where the stakes were tangible and every combat encounter was a matter of "oh fuck how do we get out of here" and then escape by the skin of their teeth. Only at the end did Joel go full Rambo and at that point it was earned; the odds against him were large but not impossible.
And then we got Abby... who decides out of nowhere to help out these two kids from the enemy faction because they saved her life. Okay cool, we got growth. But at some point she goes from "All right I'll let you live" to "I MUST SACRIFICE MY LIFE AND LIMB AT EVERY STEP TO MAKE SURE THESE CHILDREN DON'T DIE". Even when facing the absolutely insurmountable odds that Ellie similarly faces. Even going so far as to sabotage and kill HER OWN PEOPLE on a quest to save one kid's life. Spoiler alert, that kid dies anyway.
So now we have TWO armies gunning for Abby because she inexplicably decided to risk everything to save two random kids, meanwhile seemingly having no qualms about killing all the people that those kids grew up with.(Cont.)
Does anyone see the fucking problem here? I mean every Scar was a kid at one point too. Don't wax poetic about the sanctity of human life while murdering hundreds upon hundreds of people.
So Tommy and Ellie turn tail after Abby kicks the shit out of them and allows them to live another day. This is where I thought everyone would learn that revenge is, like, bad and stuff.
TWO YEARS LATER: >Tommy is still bent out of shape about Joel's death. >Ellie has PTSD that can only be cured by revenge (makes sense) >Life is actually pretty good for everyone and Dinah BEGS Ellie not to chase down Abby again.
This is the part where Ellie could have swallowed her pride and literally could have lived happily ever after.
Instead of doing the sensible thing, Ellie AGAIN goes on an illogically unlikely quest to kill Abby. When she finally gets to Abby, she beats her to a pulp and then lets her live.
Why. WHY. Why the fuck go on another impossible quest and sacrifice your relationship with Dinah just to puss out at the end?
The game ends with Ellie returning to Jackson only to find that Dinah and their adopted child have left and Ellie is all alone.
Writing in the most well-funded AAA games can't even surpass the complexity and writing vigor of cheap telenovelas. Fuck's sake.
>through thousands upon thousands of trained soldiers The wolves had around 1000 total members. And most of them aren't soldiers. Ellie also never got anywhere close to their main base.
Aaron Green
This game was written by a Faggot made to Faggots, if you just lost 60 dollars and you'really regretting the purchasing this bastardpiece after hearing about the Leaks its on you you Massive FAGGOTS
Anthony Brown
>their adopted child JJ was Dinah's and Jessie's child was he not?
Elijah Wood
When someone has faggots on the mind as much as you. That's very telling.
Jack Gutierrez
The last of us 1 was a game for normies, they just got the sequel their normie asses deserved. Don't act like TLOU is deep or whatever.
lol no one ever said tlou was deep everything is fucking spelled out, the only real reason you could've felt left out is because you're fucking retarded
John Bailey
LOL typical response , you people areally a bunch of degenerates burn in hell assmuncher
Hunter Harris
>Why. WHY. Why
I asked myself the same and it's hilariously cringy look at some of the pseudo-intellectual responses I got. This question was even asked to the main writers in an interview with a movie magazine (how fitting) and not even they know how to respond. They give conflicting answers.
Gross, one of the main writers says Ellie is suffering from PTSD, she's an insane person that can't function and she thinks going after Abby will fix it. Druckman says it's about honor (lol)
Jack Butler
But both of these responses fucking suck. You can't pull "insanity" card right when everyone thinks the game is about to end and just make the character do something so ridiculous for the sake of really nothing, Santa Barbara is such a useless segment.
Jeremiah Taylor
Funny how all these shills are working non stop to control the flood gates, this game is nothing but propaganda tool for the Faggots, people who said this game is a 10 of 10 are in denial or just paid , even pewdiepie said it's a 6 out 10 and just thank the guy was being nice
>I asked myself the same and it's hilariously cringy look at some of the pseudo-intellectual responses I got. What responses? All I get are 'bro you just don't get it it's too deep'
Ethan Reyes
>This question was even asked to the main writers in an interview with a movie magazine (how fitting) and not even they know how to respond. They give conflicting answers. Source me on that shit, homie.
William Ortiz
this game's end is like if joel went in the hospital, killed all the guards, interrupted the operation, killed abby's dad, and then in the end retracted and gave ellie to marlene so this is what i got from this game, women are weak minded and can only makes half assed decisions because muh morals
Bentley Peterson
This is the guy in charge of the story. This is a real tweet.
Let’s talk about why Ellie goes to Santa Barbara in the first place, and the heartbreaking decision to leave her idyllic life with Dina and the baby. Does she still care about killing Abby at that point, or is it more that she needs absolution from Joel of some kind?
Gross: I think those two things are synonymous. To my mind, when she’s leaving the farm it almost isn’t about Abby at that point so much as it’s about “I literally cannot survive if I don’t try and handle what’s going on because this PTSD is just getting worse, I’m losing control, I feel like I’m at risk to my family, and I have to hope that there’s an answer on the other side because I don’t know how to live with this. If I stay here it’s suicide.” It’s more a conversation about mental health and surviving than it is justice for Abby or even seeking Joel. It’s just like “I don’t know how to be a person anymore.”
Druckmann: We tried to deconstruct Ellie’s relationship with violence versus Joel’s relationship with violence. With Joel, it’s very practical and pragmatic. He doesn’t find much pleasure or hatred in killing, he’s more indifferent, it’s just a function of how he survives. With Ellie — Malcolm Gladwell talks about this — it’s the concept of “the culture of honor.” Her ego is so intertwined with being wrong, and she has to make it right, and she believes she can’t come to rest until she makes it right.
Adam Gonzalez
And how poorly done it was.
Caleb Perez
>this game is nothing but propaganda tool for the Faggots It is pathetic how people desperately avoid confronting this when discussing how terrible the game is.
Jack Lee
>I think those two things are synonymous.
How the fuck are they synonymous. These writers are fucking idiots. I guess you can say , well Ellie is crazy now, she has PTSD she doesn't know what she's doing she's desperate. This is a cheap fakeout. They want to do this segment, so now suddenly the PTSD is a thing and she's crazy that's our justification. But it's only a problem that they did do this cheap shit to move the story forward, the problem is WHY they did it? It was completely pointless.
Aiden Taylor
She had two years to work through her shit and cool off. Killing Abby is going to cure her PTSD and talking through it wont? In a movie this would be laughable
Lucas Fisher
I haven't played the game yet but the graphics and presentation are absolutely amazing for a PS4 game. Gameplay seems fine, but nothing special. Is the story really that bad? Everyone here seems to meme it but I can look away for 10 seconds if a weird sex scene happens lol. I'm more interested in how the other 99 percent of story and dialogue are
Cooper Diaz
What ego does Ellie have? They should let Gross write the whole story, atleast I can kinda get his reasons, Druckman just sounds like he 's interpreting everything wrong.
