Why did the rougelite genre go to shit so fast? Had so much promise to it 5 years ago when it was represented by high polish games such as Isaac, Spelunkey, and Rouge Legacy. Now here we are 5 years later and it's just deck builder spam

Synthetik was a nice surprise, other than that you are probably right.
why has he not done a sequel with a randomized overworld, he has bloated this game to high heavens
Future of rougelikes are in vr
>high polish games
>such as Isaac, Spelunky and Rouge Legacy
L M A O
Risk of Rain 2 and Dead Cells and Vagante completely SHIT on them.
? Are you retarded?
Between Monster Train, Hades, Gunfire Reborn and Slay the Spire the genre is the best it's ever been. It literally innovates year on year, what more do you want? Spelunky 2?
> Spelunky 2?
any news on that?
Hopefully not, original game is garbage. We can add it to the pile of indie game sequels that got announced and turned to vaporware including Darkest Dungeon 2, Huniepop 2 and Antibirth official
>Gunfire Reborn
my mother fucking nigger
>Hades
it's good but i found the characters and story beyond cringe, also the tankiness of some enemies is completely fucked and it breaks the flow of the game.
Curse of the Dead Gods is waaaay better imo, but beyond that i agree 100%, the genre is getting better.
dunno why people still play Spelunky when Vagante is Spelunky but better in every way possible.
>Gunfire Reborn
>Hades
>Dead Cells
>Risk of Rain 2
>One Step from Eden
>roguelite genre went to shit
you're looking at the wrong corner niggy
This genre has a massive loyal cult following, doesn't it? I blame one egg.
Missed the estimated release date by like a year or something and it still isn't out. Nothing more to say, Derek Yu's given practically nothing aside from the trailer and some footage of game journalists playing it at an event I don't think any of them even managed to get out of the first world
This. Until You Fall is based.
>Antibirth official
im 100% sure Edmund pushed the release back because his god awful bumbo spinoff sold like shit.
Afterbirth and Afterbirth+ didn't take this fucking long.
>Until You Fall
Compound is amazing too, wish the soundtrack was as good.
This. OP is a fucking idiot
>pixelshit
>combat oriented
>bossfights
Did you even play spelunky?
He wants to finish the series with a bang i would assume
Antibirth was developed by a team of 4. For the official version, Edmund hired the lead programmer only - he's building it solo, which is why it's taking so long.
Not even Nicalis has been pulled in to help like every other deadline that fat fuck has missed (Thank god, they fucking ruined Afterbirth+)
Edmund has stated multiple times he gives absolute 0 fucks about Isaac and views it solely as a cash cow he didn't expect, or understand why, it got big.
>Pixelshit
looks a thousand times better than calarts animated with twinks
Yeah, and the guy got burned out because of it. So the time releases gets pushed even further.
I've been meaning to try Compound, looked fun, thanks user
>Monster Train
>Slay the Spire
deckshit
>Hades
Too repetitive
>Gunfire Reborn
never heard of it
thoughts on 30XX?
youtube.com
loved 20XX (hated the artstyle but the gameplay was tight) and played the demo of 30XX, i feel in love with it but im wondering what yall think about it.
How is One Step from Eden? Looks fun but also like something I'd be terrible at
>rougelite game
>too repetitive
you are an absolute fucking retard.
>Gunfire Reborn
>Never heard of it
Go play tlou2 fucking zoomshit
>all early access games
Looking at his other projects only Isaac really took off, he should respect it more.
Early Access stopped being a red flag when Steam started hardcore policing it in 2017.
>Gunfire Reborn
the games pretty good, it's made by chinks but it's probably one of the best FPS rougelite games out there (there are not a lot but some of the genre are pretty amazing game on their own right)
rogue legacy sucks
>all early access games
Dead Cells isn't, you dumb zoomer.
Mount and Blade Bannerlord is still a huge red flag and its in EA
No its quite overrated though
Hong Kong isn't China.
Although it might as well be, the game is 90% ripped assets. The sound effect for one of the guns is the fucking dragonbreath sound effect from Skyrim.
>literally Borderlands but without the cringy fucking story/characters
im interested, for an EA game, how much content does it have?
There is almost no variance from run to run in Hades. THe only thing that varies from run to run are the weapon you use, which 2 deadalus upgrades you get, a few special encounters, and god/goddess boons that barely affect gameplay
Monster train is interesting but $25 is too much, guess I'll wait a few years to buy it
>the game is 90% ripped assets.
besides some sounds/animations, everything from the 3D models to the effects are original.
also who gives a shit about skyrim lmao
Pixel art can be done well, Vagante isn't. Spelunky is just a higher detail version of the original, which is pixel art done well. No dumb lighting effects, no rotated pixels, designs detailed enough to stand out but not overcomplicated, no massive black outline around everything.
Vagante practically looks like the perfect example of when not to use pixel art.
