Why are there no video game protagonists with chronic illness or some other condition? All i can think of is the guy from Far Cry 2 with malaria or John Marston only having eyesight on one eye, but no one else really.

Cuz it’s no fun playing a injured person. Plus John isn’t blind I thought, it’s hard to be such a good shot.

Playing modern walking simulators isn't fun anyways so why not just go all in with realism

Nobody really wants to play a cripple. Imagine having to play GTA and the character has IBS. That wouldn't exactly be fun having to take a shit every 20 minutes or so.

People with just one eye are never portrayed realistically. I had a teacher who lost his eye when he was younger, and he says that his hand-eye coordination and depth perception were fucked for years after the fact and that even after living with just one eye for nearly two decades, his reflexes and coordination will never be anywhere close to what they were before.

If you were a soldier and you lost an eye, your military career would be over even in current times where there is little risk of the injury becoming an infection.
