Absolutely based. I 100%'d Color Splash and even though there's undeniable design shortcomings, it's also a game with A LOT of heart poured into it. But people will call it shit without having touched it, or will see the same couple framegrabs everyone shares and accuse the whole title of being nothing but meme/4th wall humor.
I wanna clarify there's nothing wrong with disliking or hating the game if you played it and weren't impressed. To each their own. What I dispute is the massive hate from a crowd who's never played it and never will but will continue perpetrating negativity about it without solid basis whatsoever.
I for one am damn happy that game existed. As I am for the franchise in general. Looking forward to TOK.

The overworld design looks great yet the character design is still shit. It's amazing they can put so much effort into making the environments look how they do and don't bother giving the bob-omb or magikoopa partners any visual flair.
No idea what to think of the combat, but I'll try to give it a fair shot. As great as PM's/TTYD's system was it doesn't need repeating, so I'm glad they're still experimenting.
Bowser not being the main villain is good news for the story, but the writing is almost certainly going to be filled with lazy paper puns.

My expectation is that this game's quality will depend entirely on what you're looking for going into it. If you're looking for TTYD 2 you're gonna be immensely disappointed, because they're not even trying to do that. If you're just looking for a fun adventure game then you'll probably have a great time. Overall I see reception to this game being very positive, just with some very vocal hate from a loud minority.

it's okay to be a nostalgiafag. It's okay to want games to be the way they were when you were a child because you have a strong attachment to them. It's not okay to throw a tantrum because a game company elected not to appeal to your nostalgia. You don't have to buy the game but they fundamentally do not owe you a specific type of Paper Mario game. Don't pretend this game looks bad when you know it doesn't because it isn't what you personally wanted.
