So what versions of the MGS games should I play?

I want to play those games but I'm kinda confused version-wise since there are a lot of remasters and shit from what I've seen. What versions should I play? I read somewhere that someone made a 1080p 60fps version of MGS1, can anybody link pls? I was thinking of downloading MGS1 and 2 from vimm's lair and using a ps1 emulator. What about 3 and 4? Are those playable on pc? I have a gtx 1060 6gb and i7 7700hq so I probably can't emulate ps3.

Just get a PS3.

fuck off im not buying a shitty old box. I'm never ever falling for the console meme again in my life, I only ever bought a switch recently( was pc only for 20 years) and it's collecting dust. I'm not buying shitty hardware, it's a waste of money, I would rather buy games or save the money for a pc upgrade.

The PS3 has a legacy collection that contains all the games. If you don't have a PS3, emulate MGS1 with a PS1 emulator. MGS 2 and 3 are PS2 games, emulate them as well (or if you have an Xbox 360 you can play the HD collection, which contains these two games and Peace Walker). The Subsistence version of MGS3 comes with ports of MG1 and MG2, which I'd also recommend playing.

MGS4 is exclusive to PS3 so if you don't have one and can't emulate it, just watch it on Youtube (it's 90% cutscenes anyway).

ah I see, mgs1,2,3 should be easy enough to emulate I guess.I found mgs1, but which one of those versions of mgs2 should I get?

should I use ePSXe for mgs1, or some retroarch core?

wait, I just read somewhere that the games required some kind of console-specific gimmicks like plugging the controller into the second slot for a boss(?) and using the pressure-sensitive face buttons? or some shit. Can I play it on PC with a xbox controller or not? God i fucking hate when games are held hostage by shitty fucking consoles, consoles should not exist at all.

PS1 MGS1 + VR Missions Expansion
MGS2 Substance
MGS3 Subsistence
After that, no version matters.

I've always wondered, how does MGS2/3 work on an emulator with the context sensitive buttons?

fuck it everywhere I google there seems to be some kind of problem, either with cutscenes or whatever the fuck. Plus I dont think I can make it run in my native resolution, 1440p

also mgs2 is unplayable because the xbox one controller doesnt have pressure-sensitive buttons. I'm disappointed.

Substance and Subsistence are the remasters of 2 and 3. Grab those.

Sorry the game fully utilized the hardware it was on, I guess.

no game should ever be locked to a system, because shit like this happens. There is no way to preserve games for long periods of time if you lock them to some shitty console, since eventually they will become obsolete. All games should be on PC, on whatever platform of choice(I'd say Steam). That's the only way to preserve them properly, since even disks decay.

I think about MGS2 literally ever day of my life

I FUCKING WANT TO PLAY IT BUT I HAVE PC + XBOX ONE. FUCKKKKKKKK

Play the ORIGINALS, always.

>i7 7700HQ + 1060 6gb
Nigga, I got the oldass i7 2600k and the same card, and I can emulate PS3 without any issues.

Seriously, if you want the least hassle, get a cheap PS3 + the MGS Legacy Collection. Bam - you now got the entire series in a single case, on one system, most in HD.

Substance / Subsistence versions are the "enhanced editions".

>remasters of 2 and 3.
No, they just got bonus content.

MGS2 is literally the weakest game out of the OG trilogy. I feel sorry for newfags who gotta slog through that mess this day and age.

what about the controller? Because apparently you need pressure-sensitive buttons or some shit. I have xbox one controller

Only Sony's Dual-Shock 2 and 3 controllers had pressure sensitive face keys.
Either get one + look up how to install needed drivers, or again : get PS3 + the games on that, and enjoy.

>t. peabrain filtered by the ending

No, that's MGS3.

play it on the xbox

False. 3 was a major upgrade from 2 in every conceivable way.

Oh yeah, the endless menus were so much better.

Confirmed for shit taste. In terms of the overall package, the ranking goes like this:

3 > 1 > 2 > 4 > 5

The menus were never an issue.
The core gameplay is much more enjoyable.

3 = 1 >= PW > 4 > GZ > MG2 = GB > MGR > 2 > TPP > TTS > PO > MG1

>The menus were never an issue.
The menus are a fucking issue. Saying they aren't is admitting the camo system is fucking worthless.

The camo system was always fun as fuck.
Same with the healing mechanic.
Congraz for admitting that you got filtered.

>implying 4 is better than 2

Fucking explain this

>The menus aren't an issue
>Having to go through several sluggish menus is so fun!
You are actually insane. And don't say anybody was fucking filtered by 3, it's the easiest game in the original Solid trilogy.

I am not implying. I am saying it loud and clear.
4 has the best gameplay of the whole series, and fixed tons of trash left over by 2.
Tourist newfags also clearly never got to play MGO2.

play all the console ones
the psp/vita ones are somewhat skipable but are relevant to the story of V

>you are actually insane
Says a clearly ADHD underaged child, who would blow a fuse playing any proper role-playing game. Or even a proper survival-horror title, like RE1.
Why are you in such a rush? Do you need all your games to be shooty-tooty bang bang run & gun crap?

>the psp/vita ones are somewhat skipable but are relevant to the story of V
No, it's V that's skippable.

>who would blow a fuse playing any proper role-playing game
We're not playing an RPG, we're playing a fucking stealth game, you confused faggot. Not only are the menus completely intrusive to the experience, you're getting at best some fucking minor camo increase that won't make much odds if you're actually good at the game. I've completed the game multiple times naked, the camo system is complete fluff.

>we're playing a fucking stealth game,
True. And what do you usually do in a STEALTH GAME?
You take things slow. Observe the scene. Plan your actions. Prepare your gear.

Thus, the inventory is not an issue. Unless you are just too impatient - at which point you could just do like you yourself admitted already doing : run around "naked"; or, as would be smarter in general, just choose a-OK camo once in a while, and act accordingly.
