basically its a form of netcode that never waits for the opponents inputs to reach the game, so then the game would guess whatever your lost input was if a packet dropped. lets say you input a move thats like 45 frames and the game experiences packet loss, meaning the input doesn't come. whatever you input during those 45 frames just doesnt matter because you're in a committed action. if the game is wrong about its guessed input, it can "rollback" meaning subtly rewind about 3 frames and correct it. that sounds weird as fuck but majority of the time you'll hardly notice.
