Metal Gear Solid

So I'm playing this for the first time and I'm trying to do it non-lethally, which is how I always try to play stealth games. So how do I knock out guards? I can't seem to figure it out.

You can't play MGS1 non-lethally

Use kung fu and rear naked chokes

Choke them multiple times but let go before they die. I think it was 4 times

lol why are you lying? There's no way to dispose of enemies non-lethally. Stunning them for a few seconds is not the same as actually knocking them out.

They aren't people they're empy husks controlled by nano machines, fire away.

But you can play through the game only stunning guards

Playing through 1 on my ps2 now, but I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and get a ps3, since I'll need one exentually to complete the series. It just feels silly to spend like 100 bucks to play 10 or so games though, do they go cheaper at pawn shops? I havent been out in a while and theres none on craigslist rn

Aren't we all?

you're playing on a crt display yes?

>Zoomers are so used to non-lethal in stealth games they cannot comprehend killing a guard

You're everything wrong with the stealth genre

Two judo throws is enough to KO guards if I remember correctly. It doesn't last long though.

You can't do a true non-lethal run, there are multiple times where you have to kill guards to proceed. The tank boss battle with Vulcan Raven for example.

I am assuming this post is ebin bait then? Also try playing shit up sometimes you autist.

Just dug out the ps2 this morning, havent even hooked it up yet. Its been a while since I've played retro games, is the difference that dramatic? Even if its lower quality I think I'd pick a 60 inch flat screen over my 13 inch crt

The absolute minimum amount of kills required to beat the game is around 12 or 13. You have to use unusual behaviour to beat the game with that low amount of kills.

>playing mgs on ps3 with ps4 controller
>defeat sniper wolf
>next room needs disc 2
>cant switch discs due ps4 controller home button not working
is there a way around this? or should i just buy a ps3 controller

you can't knock them out for more than like 5 seconds. they get right back up. anyway, to do that, either give them 2 melee combos or do the square+direction slam twice. my advice is to just either ghost or find the suppressor and kill them.

>zoomer
>when stealth games released in the same year as mgs1 did have non-lethal options
The only zoomer here is you.

I killed every guard without excitation in 1, 2 and 3.

YOU ENJOY ALL THE KILLING, THAT'S WHY

MGS is a meme. It's a clunky, archaic 'game' (it's more cutscenes than gameplay anyway). For reference, here are some basic features/mechanics present in stealth games released in 1998 (the same year MGS came out). MGS doesn't have a single one of these:
>free camera (nope, uses fixed angles that don't let you see more than a few feet in front of you)
>jumping, climbing and swimming (you can't do any of these things in MGS)
>manual aiming (nope, has auto-aim)
>melee options like parrying and blocking (nope)
>hiding bodies (nope, bodies instantly disappear)
>cleaning blood (nope, enemies don't bleed)
>footstep sounds (nope, running doesn't alert enemies and gimmicks like puddles are so rare and easily avoidable they might as well not exist)
>different surfaces have different sound levels if you move over them (nope)
>sound propagation (non-existent)
>different light levels (nope)
>lockpicking (nope)
>pickpocketing (nope)
>camouflage, with your gear having some impact on whether your blend into shadows better or worse (nope)
>picking up objects in the environment and throwing them as a distraction (nope)
>the ability to manipulate the environment by disabling light sources or covering surfaces with something to muffle your footsteps (nope)
>being able to overhear conversations of guards (nope, in MGS guards only talk in cutscenes)
>autonomous AI (nope, if a guard spots you, all the guards magically become aware of your presence immediately, and more guards are teleported in)
>being able to stealth through the game (nope, you are forced into unavoidable combat sections for a majority of the game)
>non-lethal options (nope, you can't knock out enemies, only kill them)
>different routes through a level and different ways to accomplish objectives (nope)
>variety of environments (nope, the entire game takes place in grey industrial corridors)
>story told through gameplay (nope, the majority of MGS consists of cutscenes and codec calls)

ok retard

I played MGS1 on my PS3 on a 50" Plasma and it looked fine

ok Kojimadrone

If I wanted Thief I'd play Thief.

I figured this out when i was like 10 years old. Are you 80 IQ?

>Ctrl + F "Thief"
>only results are your posts
??? Who said anything about Thief. Thief didn't invent stealth, you know.

The thing is, MGS started out in development waaaay earlier as a 3DO title. I think they were pretty close to completion in development so they just tried to minimize their losses by porting it to PS1.

I remember when this game came out. I watched my brother play it on a demo disc that came with his PlayStation magazine. It was ground breaking at the time and that kind of narrative story and stylized 3d environment was unheard of back then. Your shit is delicious autistic copypasta tho.

I think it's worth it if you have access to one

I have a little one lying around so I might as well compare and contrast

What's with the sudden MGS spam?
There's been dozens of threads up at once now.
Did some YT e-celeb make a video about it or something ??

Please do, and share images with us! You also have to contend with input lag if you use your flat-screen panel I think
