I have something very similar to this but my arm rests were much skinnier. The right one was just one cheap strip of metal welded to another one in a T. Snapped right off in the middle.

Any office chair over 500 euros, best ones are from herman miller but they're ridiculously expensive so get them refurbished or get something cheapter instead

That's extraordinarily rare. It's much more likely the cylinder gets a leak and loses pressure causing it to stay in the lowest setting.
