>Game by a couple of passionate people who care more about quality and a fun experience versus a game made by a corporation profiting off nostalgia and prioritizes marketing over good game design

Shocking, truly. Im surprised it flopped considering its a Nintendo product

My poop hurts

Y'all Metroidvania niggas so hard up for content you'll even pretend Hollow Knight is good lmao

Modern Nintendo only lets incompetent retards work on metroid games
Take a look at prime 4, they fucked up the game so bad the entire thing was thrown in the trash and restarted

Women are gay and I don't like Samus

>Metroid 2
>nostalgia
lmao nobody cared about metroid 2, actually a remake of Fusion would have sold better

Why compare it to Samus Returns? Like, are these the only two metroidvanias that you've played? AM2R is better than both. Hell, Rabi-Ribi is better than both.

Also, Australia gives a fuck ton of government funding to game studios. This was a Triple-I game in every sense of the word.
Don't even try defending the funkopop artstyle.

Samus Returns was made by literal fucknig shovelware developers. It has all the same DNA as Cursed Mirror or whatever if you really look at it. The original structure and progression of Metroid II is the game's big crutch, but if you take a second to really look at the finer details it's all fucking trash.

i will never forgive Zig Forums for memeing me into playing this, absolutely shit and unfun """"exploration""""

thank god it was like $6 or something insignificant

>charms are a poor customization system. They have boring effects that are extremely situational or downright useless, like 'removes the slight knockback when attacking' (actually detrimental, since your muscle memory will heve adapted to the knockback) or 'slightly increases movement speed' (useless, since you already have a dash that is faster) or 'lets you dash downward' (why on earth would you need this when you can just fall down). And the notch costs are too high and prevent you from using more than a handful of charms at a time, so you'll just stick with the safe options and never experiment

>the death mechanic is an inferior version of what Dark Souls does. There, normal enemies can still pose a threat, and you only have a limited amount of estus flasks, so dying during exploration is a real possibility and having to recover your souls is a relevant gameplay mechanic throughout. In Hollow Knight exploration is relatively easy since you have unlimited healing, and only boss fights pose a challenge.

>music is boring. It's all very cliched ambient melancholy stuff that lacks any memorable theme or melody. And while the boss fight music is obviously more uptempo, it's literally what you'd expect if you asked someone to compose 'generic boss fight music'.

>if you fall of a ledge, you are teleported to safety, which undermines the challenge of platforming. Often, you'll be teleported ahead to the place you were trying to reach, so you're actually rewarded for failure

>many health/soul upgrades, charms and key items are bought from stores rather than found, making exploration feel unrewarding

>upgrades are bogstandard 'dash/super dash/walljump/double jump/can survive water' Metroidvania stuff. there's nothing original or creative here.

>many enemies and bosses gain massive amounts of health if you upgrade your nail. not only is this a lazy and artificial way to balance the game, but it undermines the whole point of upgrading your character

Keep coping, game is great, you probably got stuck before even getting into the city.

I have no shame in saying i liked samus return more than hollow knight. But i wouldn't say it's a better game, hopefully the next one will make exploring more rewarding and improve on the level design aspect.

Based. I'd add how not-fast the fast travel system is.

I have no idea why this game is popular. I played it and got bored of the fights and the black and white maps after like an hour.

To add to this, so many of the charms are just variations on the same thing:
>soul catcher is 'gain more soul from hitting stuff' / soul eater is 'gain even more soul from hitting stuff'
>longnail is 'your slash has a bigger range' / mark of pride is 'your slash has an even bigger range'
There are only a few charms like Grubmaster's Elegedy that can meaningfully change your playstyle, and most of those are only obtained when the game is nearly over
Some of the charms literally just grant you QoL features that are standard in any other game, such as beeing able to see your own position on the map.

>Opinion
While charm system is not perfect, it is literally an optional system you dont need to beat the game, it is there to help you make the game easier.

>Opinion

>Opinion
Music is more ambiance oriented and it is not detrimental to the game

>Opinion
So what is this supposed to be? A instakill? Game is a metroidvania, not a platformer, there is only one section of the game that is focused on platforming and it is purely optional.

>Opinion
Now you just showed you didnt played the game, most stuff is found in the overworld, not bought.

>Opinion
And this is bad because??

>Opinion
So i can agree with this one, yet many bosses have optional harder version of themselves if you wany a challenge.

Playing it right now. It's honestly staggering how huge the map is, and finding cool shit in these types of games is what I live for. I thought I was almost done when I reached the city and saw that statue, but the devs sure as hell weren't. I've been obsessing over it and people getting filtered by its rougher starting hours are definitely missing out.

i don't get it either, hollow knight is one of the cringiest reddit söyboy games i have ever seen, and for how much everyone says it's challenging, it really isn't. pantheon of hallownest isnt even as hard as any NES ninja gaiden game.

>Hollow Bitch fans
>criticizing any metroidvania
I noticed you guys stopped that rivalry with Ori really damn fast when it kicked your ass.

Ori is not even a metroidvania, retard.

>many enemies and bosses gain massive amounts of health if you upgrade your nail

Wait, really?

and super missiles are just better missiles, where is the problem?

>Ori
>Metroidvania
People on Zig Forums actually no nothing about the games they talk about huh?

Dude treats it like it is a valid complain, but if it wasnt the case he would probably critisize how the upgrades make the game so easier.

>Wait, really?
Yup:

>Certain enemies and bosses gain HP after the player upgrades the Old Nail. Enemies with this change are noted in parentheses.

Basically the equivalent of Bethesda-style level scaling by making them bigger HP sponges. Incredibly lame.

There is health increase, but you will never need more swings to take down a enemy than without the upgrade. Mostly it becomes less. Especially considering Nail Arts. I don't know why they did that though, but I don't mind. In the end you have a much desired increase in damage.

I can agree that the charms and death system felt bad and sort of tacked on.

I noticed you don't see threads about Ori at all despite having the newer release, yet Hollow Knight still gets daily threads.

Maybe it wasn't much of a rivalry and just Ori fanboys hoping to punch above their weight class? Kinda like how when Witcher 3 came out there would always be a DA:I shitposter within the first ten posts.

How about just designing a competent difficulty curve to begin with? As pointed out hereHollow Knight's upgrade system is very shallow, so it's pretty pathetic that they had to resort to that, since unlike other games, there's not really any way for HK to break the game with certain builds.

In fact, they kept nerfing the charms for years after release in patches.

The only bosses that increase their health with nail upgrades are dream warrior bosses and Troupe Leader Grimm.

It is somewhat true. They get increased health so that the nail upgrades don't absolutely melt the bosses like they do regular enemies. They'll still take fewer hits to kill with a damage upgrade, they just wanted them to still have a chance of being difficult.

Isn't Hollow Knoght objectively considered to be by far the best metroidvania? The biggest fans and critics of the genre said so. Even other devs said it's virtually impossible to top it.

I personally wouldn't say it's the best game of all time like many other say, but it's definitely the best metroidvania ever made by a frankly hilarious margin.

Started HK this weekend, only a few hours in and already sequence broke a few parts, now I have no idea if I'm remotely doing it the 'right' way or if I'm going to get stuck somewhere and have to restart. Ignoring that though I am enjoying it, though everything is easy as fuck so far.

How do I beat PoH?
Also SILKSONG WHEN?

Ori had a new release? I didn't even notice with everybody begging for crumbs of silksong news.

Oh, and Hive Knight too.

Manage to defeat every boss on Radiant reliably.
Then still die to AbsRad

I never noticed honestly.

Ori and The Will O'Wisps
Really good game actually, minus some iffy boss fights, made the combat feel more involved and is once again gorgeous. Wouldn't recommend buying it because it's short with little replay value but it's worth subscribing to the Windows pass for a month to blast through.

hollow knight should be near the bottom of the list of quality metroidvanias due to the abysmal nu-male art style and super casual gameplay

No, it's done to balance the game out. Like I said here only very few bosses are actually affected by it, and it's because those bosses are supposed to have a fixed level of difficulty over the course of the entire game relative to your strength, whereas a boss like Watcher Knights can be either easier or harder depending on when you decide to tackle it.

Attached: redditor-tears.gif (445x593, 547.27K)

The art in HK was good tho, and it's not a casual game, that's why you got filtered.

>redditor tears
hollow knight is reddit incarnate, the Zig Forums metroidvania is Castlevania SOTN

Game is awesome, people just shitpost its bad because they got filtered.

>he wants to fucking teleport on a metroidvania

FPBP

Shorter than the first one? Because I burned through that in one afternoon and aside from the last Kuro chase thought it was a sadly simple game. And that chase was probably only annoying because I was tired and just wanted the game to be finished.

>filtered
lol, i 100%ed the game in 9 hours, the so called hardest content in the game (pantheon of hallownest) isn't even as difficult as senator armstrong in MGR:R (another casual game). I can't even compare it to something from actual difficult games, that's how easy it was. Have those devs ever seen a boss rush before?

>"music is boring"

Yes.

Screenshot with timestamp or gtfo to reddit.

Here, you deserve it.

Well, then. What metroidvanias should be at the top of the list?

I did my first blind run in under ten hours, probably about 12-14 for a 100%. Again solid game well worth playing but ya lacking in length. And the chases aren't as impressive because don't have the novelty of the 1st

This also happened to me, but with the dream fight.
