What do they eat?

fish

Whatever they want. They literally had a library of books that could warp them to other worlds.

Book of Ti'ana mentions that D'Ni had farm worlds that they'd link into and out of to get food.

But what if something happens to the books?
In all seriousness, is it worth reading the books if I'm interested in the setting/lore? I've only played Myst and Riven, but there's a lot that doesn't make sense.

>I've only played Myst and Riven

Stop there and call it a day. Trust me.

Are the sequels really that bad? I was thinking of at least trying the third one to see Brad Dourif.

the first two books are good. They provide interesting backstory to Myst, Riven and Uru. The third book isn't nearly as good. Sort of like the later Myst titles, in a way.

Where do they sleep? Where do they shit and piss?

Brad definitely carries the third game imo

The first four are good

Puzzle cum.

Exile is a great game, but it is more like the first game than the second game, with distinct ages that are really just random and things aren't tied together as tightly. The fourth game looks great and has a few good puzzles, but is mostly not that great, still worth playing though. The fifth game is just trash. Uru is worth checking out, it has some of the coolest ages in the series.

What is their tax policy?

Sequels are great, well except for the 5th game.

I think the Millers just created the island as a concept for puzzles before thinking about how it would actually work as an island.

Then they were like, oh wait, that's dumb, and then the fixed it for Riven.

Your mom's pussy.

I loved the 1st book a lot. I wasn't expecting anything and that was great. I might even want to reread it now that I'm speaking of it.

>tfw parents bought me this when it came out
>I was 5
>tortured by the creepy emptiness and had no idea of what was going on, reading comprehension was limited, and have never attempted to replay it

Single childhood was both a blessing and a curse.

It's funny because apparently they set out with the express goal of making a game without arbitrary puzzles for Myst.

I remember having pretty much the same experience. I often wonder what my life might've been like if I were smart enough to actually play Myst.

The page, the page! Did you bring the page?!
...you didn't... bring the page. You didn't bring the page.
YOU ILLITERATE HUNK OF SHIT! HOW COULD YOU SOLVE EVERY OTHER PUZZLE BUT STILL FUCK UP IN THE HOME STRETCH?! WELCOME TO D'NI DUMMY. I HOPE YOU'RE JAZZED TO WATCH ME SHIT IN THE CORNER AND JERK IN THE OTHER FOR ALL ETERNITY CUZ THAT'S ALL I GOT LEFT!

This is sad.

i remember that one area with that compass or whatever and when you press the wrong button an alarm will sound; that scared the shit out of me.

Exile is a bigger if slightly bloated version of the first game, it's definitely worth playing.
Revelation has a few really questionable puzzles, but a lot of good ones too. I don't see any reason to skip it.
End of Ages is easily the weakest in the series. It has some positives too, but I'd say play Uru instead

For me, it's Cosmic Osmo.

I just beat Riven the other day and I want to bitch about the puzzle design. Whose genius idea was it to have every puzzle include some ambiguous or missing clue that makes it so you can never be certain if you actually have the right solution? That shit is completely ridiculous. How the fuck were you supposed to know what the first animal was? I ended up guessing everything that could've been in water at some point. Was there a hint somewhere to not use the yellow marble specifically?

The Starry Expanse Project is one of the coolest vaporware titles ever, right up there with Timesplitters Rewind

Best way to replay Myst?

D'NI isn't even that bad of a place, wouldn't mind being stuck there. There are worse ages to be stuck in.

>even if you get the "good ending" he just tells you to fuck off and go play with the books or something
>sends you on what's basically a suicide mission to Riven with no plan whatsoever, only to let you fall into the void at the end because he's "pretty sure" that will let you get home
What was his problem?

I was able to figure out the color of the fifth marble by process of elimination, the only two possibilities ended up being yellow and blue. I cheated for the animals, but I guess you're supposed to assume the first orb made the sound of an aquatic animal because Gehn found it in the bay.

GoG version works well.
I'd say avoid RealMyst, the levels aren't designed for free movement
