Super exists, user.

Tie between Super and Prime.

Replaying Prime for the first time in a while. My only gripes are the mandatory waypoints and the aiming on the GC version can be a little clumsy.

tpbp

prime is a level design and atmospheric masterpiece, but it lacked super's incredible mechanical depth

close, but no

Prime is boring as fuck but Super and Fusion are classics.

You can turn the waypoints off in the menu.

>mandatory
seems like you need those considering you couldn't even figure out going into the options and turning them off

>fushit
lol

go halfway through this game years ago then had no idea where to go. it doesn't give you any hints at all. never finished it

Prime > Zero Mission > Prime 2 > Super > Samus Returns > Fusion

Haven't played Prime 3 yet

The only reason that Super slightly edges out Prime is that Chozo ghosts are aids after the first encounter even with X-Ray visor.

Fantastic list

I don't know how people can even put Prime on the same tier list as the 2D games, it's all combat which was a very small part of the sidescrollers outside of spamming super missiles in boss fights, and very very little exploration movement tech or sequence breaking

>it's all combat
what? prime games have the same ratio of combat, except maybe 3 which is the least praised one. The difference is combat is much more nuanced in prime where it isn't just spamming missiles 99% of the time

>very very little exploration movement tech
this has only ever applied to super, even so prime had scan dashing and some other esoteric movement options

>or sequence breaking
absolutely false, original prime 1/2 have a shit ton of sequence breaking. In contrast half the 2D games have fuck all sequence breaking, or are so minor they don't even register (2/SR and fusion)

>bleeding edge 'this one is the definitive best and I'll argue to 500 replies why it is' thread

enjoy your hundreds of you's.

Agreed. This is taking away from valuable Dr.Disrespect threads and console war faggotry

I agree

Wrong.

>it's all combat
did you play the game?

>Hey, i'm gonna compare 3d game and a 2d game with different gameplay

huh

Samus Return > Other M > Prime Hunter (MP) > AM2R > Zero Mission > Prime series (+HUNTER SP) > Super Metroid > Fusion > Metroid 2 > Metroid

Didn't play Federation Force and Pinball isn't a metroid game ofc

I don't know why Metroid fans do this, even Nintendo separates them, I never rank Prime with the 2D games, I keep them separate.

Frequently, I don't mean to say the entire game is just combat but it's obvious that most of the new mechanics like lockon, sidestep dash, missile combos, switching beams etc are entirely for combat whilst the movement side of things is reduced to walking at a single speed, occasional double jump, and morph ball only areas whilst the morph ball itself is basically unusable outside of that context
for the record I don't feel they're remotely bad, just incompatible

anyone who says 3D and 2D have different gameplay are retards. Prime 1/2 and super/ZM are closer to each other than prime 3 and SR/fusion. Other M in particular is very similar to fusion. The core of metroid is level focused exploration, not some autism over perspective

You put the wrong arrow character, user.

>whilst the movement side of things is reduced to walking at a single speed
boost ball? screw attack? The combat being more involved in prime doesn't mean there's more of it compared to the 2D games, it just means it's not as braindead

>and Pinball isn't a metroid game ofc
It is and legitimately more than AM2R shit.

I liked how metroid prime 1 was more horror/mystery with heavy backstory in every scan

They're near close, not him but I do get tired of you Prime fans shoving your games with the 2D games, they're different and even Nintendo considers them different, you're just autistic.

*They're not even near close

The OST and sound design in general is what makes Metroid Prime my favorite
youtube.com/watch?v=q46jsUerY9Y

ok I don't care what nintendo or you thinks, to me the first two prime games are closer to 1 and super than SR or fusion are

Metroid Prime 2. It had better, more immersive locations than MP1 imo. Torvus Bog and Sanctuary Fortress are two of my favorite levels in video games as a whole, from the music to visuals to progression.

Of the 2D games I've played Super, Fusion, and Zero Mission (all at least twice) and I prefer Fusion for having the best combat and bosses.

ah yes the thing you use when there's a half pipe shoved in the room and the thing you use when there's a wall jump surface shoved in the room. That's why I brought up how trash the morph ball is outside of context
I'm not even going to acknowledge you trying to say that there's not more combat in prime

Súper Metroid but they're all great except for Other M.

are you dumb? boost ball is one of the primary methods of movement in prime, you don't just use it for half pipes. screw attack also propels you forward faster for horizontal air movement.

You aren't going to acknowledge my point about combat because you can't argue against it

the problem is that exploration is more interesting on 3D than 2D because you don't see "everything" in one go.
That's were Metroid Prime is good at, but in my opinion that's what also made the combat fucking slow and boring.
What is interesting however is that the last games are trying to nail the good points of both 2D and 3D games.
In terms of fun, i've would have put it after Prime since everything after that is trash tier.

>the problem is that exploration is more interesting on 3D than 2D because you don't see "everything" in one go.
not sure what you mean by this

I wish regular movement speed was faster in prime, but that's it.

>uppity prime2fag
every time

The original Metroid will always be the most strange, interesting, hostile, dread-inducing and, let's face it, janky game in the series. There aren't any games like it. For that, I will always love it more than the rest
