Ok so I beat Super Metroid like 2 weeks ago. I then beat both Metroid Zero mission and Fusion in like 3 days. Since then I have been playing nothing but SOTN of the night and i have pretty much 100% the game at this point. I think I understand why people like metroidvanias so much.
Where do I go from here? I also beat Hollow night a few years back and did like it so not that I want more classic feeling metroidvanias. The more like SoTN the better.
Ok I think I will. What other Castlevania is worth playing? I gotta be honest I didn't love rondo of blood, I mean it was good but no necessarily what I wanted.
Luke Davis
Every 2D Castlevania after SotN, plus Bloodstained.
Jackson Diaz
just play the DS Castlevania games after Aria. Dawn of Sorrow is amazing, Portrait of Ruin is amazing, Ecclesia is a bit flawed and uneven but has the best boss fights.
Jack White
For classicvanias, 1, 3, Rondo of Blood, and Bloodlines are all good. I'm not a big fan of the Metroid-style castlevanias, but besides SotN, Aria of Sorrow is also good. For the 3d ones, Lament of Sorrow and Lords of Shadow are pretty good, all of the others aren't worth your time.
Joseph Scott
I honestly vastly prefer Lords of Shadow 2 to the first game. The story is more interesting, the locations are more interesting, the added exploration elements are great, the environments are gorgeous. That game didn't deserve any of the amount of shit it got.
Wyatt Brooks
You will be VERY disappointed going from sotn to aria. I'd suggest getting bloodstained and if your curiosity gets the best of you then play aria and the other handheld castelvanias.
Kevin Thompson
>You will be VERY disappointed going from sotn to aria howso? Aria is better
Jack Butler
La-Mulana
Christian Kelly
>I think I understand why people like metroidvanias so much. >Where do I go from here?
I'm stuck on the fucking mantras and when I tried to go back a year after i quit I was lost on what to do even when looking at a guide that I just quit
Camden Thompson
BS is whack and Aria is really good
Justin Long
No it isn't. The only good thing aria has over sotn is the soul system but desu the game is so short that only people who really REALLY like aria will care to get the most out of the soul system. I beat the game and never felt any reason to replay it as soma trying to collect the various souls. sotn is easy but aria is even easier. Only 2 good boss fights.
Easton Hill
I always though this was a bog-standard walking simulator and I am shocked to find out otherwise
Bentley Williams
I made this list partly based off of suggestions from one of the last metroidvania threads.
Note that every game below the castlevanias are just games that personally interested me, it's not a list of every single metroidvania you could try. I already beat hollow knight so it's on there. If you beat hollow knight before the DLC came out i'd suggest replaying it with all the changes
>the environments are more interesting Like the 30% of the game that takes place in flashbacks/the castle, sure. The rest is bland a boring. LoS2 was one of my biggest disappointments of last gen. Stupid bullshit like forced stealth ruined it for me. It's a shame because there's some good stuff in the game. LoS1 has its own problems though, so while I prefer it to 2 I can see why you might feel otherwise. Those janky colossi fights and very un-Castlevania like art direction sucked.
Jace Turner
Play the handheld Castlevanias in order. They're all at the very least good and several are arguably better than SotN. If you still want more play Bloodstained RotN.
Grayson Rogers
>very un-Castlevania like art direction I actually really thought the modernist Spanish horror clearly inspired by Guillermo Del Toro was a very interesting and fitting direction for the series to go in
Joshua Hall
>telling him to play Harmony of Dissonance user he will never make it to Aria or the DS games at that point
Jack Ross
Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance (especially Harmony) are skippable
Jace White
I liked it but it didn't fit Castlevania IMO. I'm all for shaking it up but the game at times felt like a completely different series. At times it felt more LotR than Castlevania.
Gabriel Reyes
Fuck I forgot I also played Enviro Station Alpha. That game fucking ruled.
Ayden White
I mean the point was for it to be a reboot
Angel Young
Harmony being bad is a meme. It's a solid game,, if weaker than the others. And CotM is fantastic.
Michael Williams
it's really not a meme
and CotM is merely ok.
Bentley Gonzalez
I love metroidvanias too user. My favourite game of all time is Tombi (Tomba in the US). It's a PS1 game like SotN so you shouldn't have a problem playing it.
Gavin Garcia
CotM is the best of the handheld Castlevanias. Somafags need not reply, Bloodstained did your gimmick better.
Dylan Smith
I like Harmony but the 3 world mechanic is tedious and the music is downright terrible. It just has really great controls. Circle is okay but middling. Aria is amazing.
