The first game was an unironic sleeper hit in 2015. Probably my GOTY. It is a shame they're cutting avellone though, I was looking forward to the writing not be mediocre beyond belief like the first game.

I want to believe he's already done most of the work for the story already and this is just for company image or some gay shit. The game was supposed to come out in spring before the wave of delays earlier this year, the writing part has to be mostly done at this point.

it was a sleeper up until like 2018 when they fixed the horrendous crashes and terrible critical bugs that softlocked you at random points in the game (and then fucked you because LMAO AUTOSAVE)
then it became a hit because after 3 years of patches and dlc anything can be decent.

Avellone's contributions, as with most of his "projects" since New Vegas, are minimal and only in name. The fact the Bloodline 2 devs came out and said nothing Chris worked on is in the game proves this.
DL2's writing has largely been handled by ex-CDPR writers, so it's still in capable hands.

There were rumors that Avellone wrote a bunch of "quests" and stories for the game treating it as an open world rpg and none of those could be used in zombie smasher DL2 supposed to be and required complete rewrites.
I think they were glad to get rid of him. The game is a mess in a dev hell anyway.

It was decent when it came out because it was the only co-op zombie game that wasn't just a "Go from A to B" or survival game like L4D but year it was quickly surpassed by better games.
