They are good but they are flawed. The level curve is horrendous to play with. They are not perfect. Gen 2 Pokemon selection is also as shit as it always ways and all the Crystal imrpovements are no where to be seen. But people generally outweigh the flaws with its comfiness and kinoness.

B2W2 and Platinum are just as good.

They should rerelease these on Switch instead of doing new Let’s Go titles, and in the new free time they have use it to develop a completed mainline Pokémon game.

If you are not going to play.an original copy of the game anyway, my suggestion is to look for a hack that correcst the level curve, offers some alternative ways to evolve pokémons needing trades and eventually increases the the selection of wild pokémons.

The games scream SOUL. but are actually pretty mediocre and boring. Fuck the shitty level curve.

BW had 2 good things going for it: 1) it felt fresh by limiting to new Pokemon, and 2) Kamitsure's design. Both of these things were ruined in B2W2.

Play the modded versions for an even better experience now that you're an adult.

Yeah just emulate. DS emulation is really solid. You can even use your phone without issue if your phone doesn't suck.

They don't have the same atmosphere but in terms of battles and available pokemon they are better than the originals. Plus walking pokemon is cool. Shame that got dropped until lgpe.

If you're a nostalgiafag who can't stand the sight of anything past your childhood Pokemon creatures or if you're a sheep that follows them, then Heart Gold and Soul Silver are the games for you. If you want a good game then avoid them as they're the only 2D Pokemon games to rival the easiness of the 3D games with grossly under-leveled trainers and shitty Pokemon distribution that has you battling level 9 Rattata half way into the game.

However I personally still enjoy the originals more simply because my nostalgia for the old music and graphics adds another layer of enjoyment for me.

Playing the modded version fixes everything you're criticising.

Like others have mentioned the level curve is scuffed but that’s pretty much there only bad side for this classic.
