I'll probably be the only one to say this, but Starlancer. A young me got so invested in the cheesy Space NATO vs Space Commies/ISIS that I was actively mad when Freelancer came out and just retconned everything. I refused to play the game for several years.
Space fucked my mommy.
When I was younger there was some space game I can barely remember but I really enjoyed it. I think I pirated it. You could fly inside asteroids that had mining tunnels and I think you were a bounty hunter? I wish I knew the name.
Space Pirated And Zombies was fun too.
All the big named modern actual space games are meh. I play ED and SC on and off.
technically every game happens in space user
Freelancer. I didn't play Starlancer. Wonder if I should.
Hey I had a toy set of Starlancer ships. You could combine parts together to make weirder and bigger ships. I loved it. Never played the game though.
Outer Wilds was pretty neat
Probably one of the best games released in recent years.
Marathon is my favorite. I like games set on space ships/stations. Is Dead Space any good?
Elite Dangerous is alright. It's a pretty boring game but it's nice and chill when I want something pretty and brainless to mess around in.
Is X4 any good? kind of waiting for the price to go down on that one a bit more.
Descent?
Starfield
Does it still randomly kill you because you encountered an infected cruiser
Starsector is pretty good but lacking in content
Still disappointed that the eldritch abomination that was hinted at is the [REDACTED] rather than actual eldritch abominations like the Yuuzhan Vong
I don't.
How do I get a real life job to go to space?
The Saturn vs Mars thread 404'd so I'll repost this here, anyone else play this game? I enjoyed what I played of it in terms of building ships and building up my crew but the combat was pretty weak. Still wish there were more games like it, I'm not sure why there are so many movies, shows, and books about exploring space but so few games.
Not my favorites, Starpoint Gemini 2 and Warlords are pretty good B-tier space games. Good space combat, interesting systems and a decent sized map, but with unpolished UI. Good if you liked Bridge Commander and are willing to put up with B game jank.
As for space sims, its still Freespace 2. Note if you're making a space sim: just copy Freespace's UI and controls. Especially the offscreen target indicator. Can't believe current games STILL dont do that (looking at you Rebel Galaxy Outlaw).
Did no man's sky really get good? Does it at least deliver the feeling of exploring space?
Its ok. I had about 50 hours into the game. But then again I'm pretty good at finding fun in even the most boring of things.
Outer Wilds
FreeSpace 2 for combat, but I always liked some space exploration and FS2 was always about short missions and not a fully fledged world. I want FS2 style combat with huge capital ships and stuff, and something like Freelancer's notion of exploraion/freedom.
I have tried to play X3 games, gave X3 Reunion and X3 Albion Prelude a try, but the combat of those games is just dull, and being a criminal hunter capping ships to sell em wasn't very entertaining.
me too, love Freelancer and Starlancer has been on my list of games to try basically ever since Freelancer was new
star citizen
in it's current state, its fun for like a month, and then you inevitably realize it'll never really go anywhere because of chris roberts and shit management. its a fun waste of time so long as you dont buy anything past an avenger pack.
pic related btw, i think it describes the current game very well.
Star Citizen
but that dog is complete
