Buying these things is like posting on social media and getting praise. It releases dopamine in the brain every time you increase your collection and getting hyped into seeing what new released lurk on the horizon. It is similar to lootboxes and boosters, you don't really know what new set will be released but buying and maybe opening or keeping it closed simply makes your brain tell your body it feels good. If you stop buying them then you go through a period of feeling depressed before actually feeling better. Not everyone has this, but there are people who are sensitive/weak to this sort of thing.
