I didn't play it until a couple of years ago so I didn't get caught up in the masses hating the ending so I quite enjoyed the series

1 has great story and worldbuilding, but it's jank and the checkpoints are trash. Manually save often.

2 has better gameplay, but the story is a tiny bit weaker in certain areas. Still a strong and interesting narrative.

3 has great gameplay, but the story is noticeably lower quality in several areas. It's still alright except for the dogshit ending. Citadel DLC contains the best character interactions in the entire franchise.

About the other 2 ? As much as 3 now. playing the trilogy again just make me feels like Bioware didn't even play their games or that the staff got replaced after every ME.

Play one for the world building, characters, story and atmosphere. Play 2 if you want more of those characters. Play 3 if you got through 2 and your take away was "i want more combat, but fuck everything else".

What if there was some kind of deal shepard had to make with the reapers, they need that human reaper for some reason but it doesn't have a mind. Shepard is used for the mind of it or something... I don't know.

3 = 3/10

I had fun with all the games, although it's true that the plot in ME3 stopped making sense very early. Not to mention Kai Leng. Maybe the problem was that Bioware wanted to sell the game to zoomers who hadn't played 1 or 2 and knew nothing about the universe. So "you fight an evil organisation led by an evil tycoon who sends Cyborg Ninja to kill you" did just fine, any 13 year old ADHD kid could relate to that. Because fuck the worldbuilding, fuck the lore, fuck the nuance, just pew pew your way and pick a colour.

It is. The narrative dissonance is unbelievable. You're supposed to believe that ground troops are holding the line against the literal apocalypse and the arrays some how just fucking work. Kai Leng is a joke, the reapers are magically weakened, characters still fucking argue with you despite being space jesus, they dump characters and add one they don't bother developing properly, added fucking cameos and the absolute gut punch of it all is that you make decisions in the series which aren't even superficially evident, they're non-existent.

Mass Effect should have been a standalone game with a conclusive ending.
