Ghost Trick

In no particular order:

Danganronpa
Ace Attorney Trilogy
Zero Escape
Hotel Dusk
Ghost Trick

Generally regarded as the highlights of a relatively niche genre. Trials and Tribulations and Virtues Last Reward are some of my favourite games of all time.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni

Thank you! Danganronpa, AA and 999 I've beaten. I was initially put off by the transition to 3D for VLR even though 999 was incredible. I'll take your word for it and get into it.

unironically la noire

Ghost Trick
Zero Escape was good when I was 14 but I can't recommend it in good faith to most people, it would be better as a choose your own adventure anime. The puzzle rooms start getting too random at points rather than feeling like actual escape rooms that make sense.

I still need a game that does Light/L

Danganronpa 2 does that quite well

I can't play Danganronpa because I genuinely despite the art style, it sounds pompous to say I could do better, but its so fucking stiff

Umineko

Sucks to be you.

Be careful not to get spoiled on ghost trick. I'd get to it right away to be honest.
Legitimately a fantastic story with simple but fun gameplay.
It has a comedic tone for most of it, but the story itself is serious.

If you played Ace Attorney you know how it is, it's the same guy directing

I'd recommend against picking VLR up. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but it's pretty much sequel bait, and the follow-up is downright awful to the point where it retroactively ruins it. At least 999 stands alone relatively well.

I didnt care much for death note fite me

But user, what if I've finished all of these several times already?

how do you replay a danganronpa game while knowing everything

In desperation. I need more mystery games.

if you have the heart for it, check out the portopia serial murder case

When I was young I used to replay the AA trilogy once a year.
Even with the mystery gone sometimes it's just fun to read the dialogue.
I used to reread my comic books all the time too.

Nowadays we push this "consume, discard, move on to next product" a little too much.

Haven't heard of this one before, by googling it sounds interesting. What makes it stand out for you?

This is exactly what I used to do. I remember obsessively going through all the previous entries when a new release was coming. I know them by heart by now, so it's a bit harder to jump in anymore.

Not him and I haven't even played it myself but I know it's a Yuji Horii game and he's one of the best devs in the industry.
He's the Dragon Quest guy if you don't know

Obra Dinn
It’s an actual good game that asks you to solve shit instead of it just being a detective story.

its just so fucking early look at that fuckin release date LOOK AT IT
i saw arino play it and figured id give it a try, yuji horii is the dev and its surprisingly good for something made in motherfucking NINETEENEIGHTYTHREE

fpbp

I didn't even realize that. I've got a horrible attention span for lengthy games so the only DQ I've played through was 9, but that was charming as hell. If Horii has brought even half of that into this then I'm in.

Oh he played it as well? Must've missed it, but it's starting to sound like something I really would be into

Space Station 13 is probably the best one I've ever played.

The graphics hurt my eyes

Does Hotel Dusk live up to all those other games? It's one of the only major "gameplay" mystery VNs I haven't played, mostly because I'm under the impression that the story isn't as interesting.

The Wolf Among Us. Telltale didn't fuck this one up

I tried to emulate Hotel Dusk but wasn't able to get past that one spot where you flip two switches at the same time. Supposedly you can get passed it with some trickery but I never got it to work.

Oh well.

It's definitely more character/atmosphere centric than the rest, if you don't grow to like Kyle (which is difficult) you won't like most of the game. It doesn't help they clearly planned for a trilogy and got cut off at the knees by becoming a dead studio.
But it's definitely on par in terms of quality for what it does specialize in.
For example DR's biggest strength is individual cases to work out the mysteries yourself. GT is a tightly wound plot with excellently done twists. AA trilogy are courtroom debates and a strong supporting cast. What Hotel Dusk and even it's sequel does with Kyle is definitely worth a read compared to that.

based

Surprised this isn't talked about more. It was fucking amazing and actually challenging. I love stuff like Zero Escape and Ace Attorney but they don't require too much detective ability unlike this game that made me get a notes sheet out. I wish I could play this for the first time

VLR has that secret ingredient of rage material that 999 lacks. Namely Ally Ally, Ally Ally, Ally... Betray.

Disco Elysium

Past the first flashback I stopped caring what I picked, as it was immediately obvious the results would always cuck you.
