it's not an alternative to it, but i'll explain
until now you needed to either buy a premade FMCB card, or do swap tricks(either with blocked sensors, or using action replay, swap magic and so on) or an already modded ps2 to install FMCB on your own.
This exploit can launch homebrew(uLaunchelf) from disc directly without swaps and without the PS2 being modded, so anyone can use uLaunchelf to make their own FMCB with almost no prerequisites.
For now it only works if your DVD firmware is 3.11U or 3.10U, but he's working on making it work on all versions.

Why would they worry about it? the ps2 has been out of production for like 6-7 years. They lose no money from this, the second hand market crashing is probably bad for them trying to release "rare" games on psnow/ps4 to incentivize people subscribing, but eh, not really gonna hurt them, most normalfags don't care enough to dig up a ps2, they want everything in one.

You didn't watch the whole video. He mentioned and talked about how the ps2 could read discs through the use of hardware modchips and memory card modding with FMCB. Here's the thing: you can now run burned discs WITHOUT the use of hardware mods or modded MCs.
