Game has been in development for eight fucking years

>game has been in development for eight fucking years
>people think it has any chance of being good
Are ridiculously long dev cycles the sign of a shit game?

What's the best years for a good game?

Cool

SMT4 took ten years to come out and Zig Forums always praises that game

I'm happy for you. I still want to have a discussion, because it seems like any game with a really long development cycle has been a huge let down. Versus 13/FF15, MGS:V, etc

>any game
>lists just two games, from current gen even

you're gonna have to give stronger examples if you're gonna claim something

2-3

It's not different from regular games with shorter dev times. Some games with long dev times have been disappointments for a number of reasons. Like FF15, which was just a mess. Then there's a game like Duke Nukem Forever that was essentially restated development and was still shit. In the same way there have been games that took a long time to come out that are fantastic, such as SMT4 or LA Noire.

retard

Worst thing is that it will be a ps4 gen game.

No, you don't want a discussion, you want to partake in the dumb anti-shilling that plagues this board.

They are pulling GTA 5 with it. Releasing it on PS4 and then a month later again on PS5.

It's either REALLTmY good, or pure shit. No middle-ground with that extended development.

4. 2-3.5 pure development, 6 months to a year of polishing.

Name 1 game with a long development time that was good

>adds a female piece that is grossly overpowered
yea no

At best it's been in development for 4-5 years.

This is the worse thing, can't believe they removed it.

L.A. Noire was what, seven years?

>Versus 13

FFXV is a completely different game. Versus XIII was barely out of the concept phase when it was scrapped and then 15 was slapped together quickly in a couple of years.

i already answered it

Canceling a game and cobbling something together from what's leftover is still development time on a game. If I spend three years making "user's Gay Journey" then cancel it and use the assets to create "user and OP's Dicksucking Simulator" over another three years that is still effectively six yeas developing a game..

Fuck! First wall-running now this?
Cancelling my preoder! :-(

It's been in development for 4 years. They only started after they finished with the Witcher 3 DLC

It is going to a very pretty looking serviceable game.
That is enough nowadays.

idiot.

>>game has been in development for eight fucking years
That's where you're wrong. That teaser trailer in 2013 was to judge investor/customer interest, nothing more. They only started working on this game after Witcher 3 shipped.

FFXV completely started over though. The original trailer was made when Square had literally nothing to show, so they cobbled together a fake CGI trailer based on concepts of what they THOUGHT the game was gonna look like. Then later they released some footage of the game in action, but it was all early stuff and the game wasn't close to a playable build.

FFXV has very little to do with the original Versus aside from some similar concepts, but these concepts were never really developed into an actual, playable state.

Case in point, Cyberpunk's original trailer was the same, it was a proof of concept and recruiting tool for CDPR. The game didn't properly enter development until Witcher 3 was out and even then alot of people were still working on the DLC, so it probably didn't see full blown development until 2016. Overall that's a pretty reasonable timeframe for a big game like that. TW2 and 3 both took 4 years to develop.

I just hope it'll be comparable to picture related.
And from what things look like, it looks like it might be relatively similar to it. But in 3D, which is basically what I want. Though without Shadowrun's fantasy elements.

I am not expecting anything more. I don't even like the Witcher or CDPR.

13 months at the minimum because it gave us the greatest fighting game of all time, Super Smash Bros. Melee. I'm just waiting for you faggots to seethe.

Two of my favourite games - The Witness & Antichamber had very long development (7-8 years). However, they are indie, I don't know if it's the same for AAA.

Really? Or more like Atlus was too busy milking Persona that they forgot about the mainline series entirely?

>I don't even like the Witcher or CDPR
Then I have bad news for you. The more I read about cyberpunk, the less I recognize from p&p and the more I recognize Witcher 3 atmos.
Luckily I like both but it seems like they've gotten stretched too thin this time since every week we get news about more stuff that has gotten cut.

Thing are just set in stone and no matter how many pedestrians they add or how good the new textures are and render range increased, it will forever be that last gen game with cosmetic improvements for the next gen.
