This would get that writer cancelled instantaneously today.

All reviews were like that up until like 2005 or so.
90’s gaming magazines were fucking great.

I've been watching a ton of old X-play episodes to for this feel.

>The days where reviewers can treat anime games like shit are behind us

and that's a good thing!

wat
nigger, anime games get shat on as a standard unless they’re “iconic” so reviewers overcompensate by fellating them endlessly because they need to show they’re real gamers and in the know about dragon quest and final fantasy and shit

>he's sailing now

Every time

>eating milky bars 3 times a day
Jesus Christ, Steve

>forgetting the cheeky bedtime millybar
My personal favorite is the hour of screaming. I worked it into my own night

>He was sailing now.

I remember when Bong mags were amazing. Back when PC Gamer had Kieron Gillian and shit. Back when they had balls and didn't just follow the same shit. With funny jokes and shit. I used to subscribe, for like a decade. But they did a re-review of Postal 2 and it wasn't even a review, but just the writer complaining that it was problematic and that's when I didn't renew, even though I liked stuff to read and stuff.

What has happened to men?

If this was today this would be called "toxic masculinity"

no it wouldn’t, you stupid nigger

UK gaming magazines really were amazing. I keep getting advertised subscriptions for PC gamer, retro gamer and edge. But I know it won't be the same.
>getting to the page that was nothing but ads for chat up lines and women in lingerie

the monologue on the suicide is actually a bit disturbing and uncanny

It got them cancelled by EA back in the day too

This is totally rad, man.

there’s no monologue in that text, you stupid faggot

it's an inner monologue delivered by an omniscient third-person narrator

Does anyone have their old gaming magazines laying around? id love to see how reviewers of olde rated some iconic games of the past.

I do, but they’re not for filthy anglo eyes

You can read them on the internet archive. But not Nintendo Power though because they sued

I tossed out my Game Informer stuff a long time ago, but I should have chucked them sooner when they gave Skyward Sword a 10. I only made it to Faron Woods before the boredom completely overtook me and I gave it away to a friend. That was the first disconnect between reviews and reality that I experienced.

The earliest magazines I had were from 2004, when Nintendo Power was dumping accolades on this spooky and bloody game I never heard of that creeped me out called Resident Evil 4. I wondered why such a harsh and violent looking game was so honored in a magazine as bright and bouncy as Nintendo Power. I was 7. I found out much later they were absolutely right.
