Harmony of Despair

Has anyone tried this? It's pretty interesting though it seems like it would be way more fun if I had people to co-op with. I've only played the first level but it was designed pretty well, multiple paths to the boss, tons of optional areas. The concept is pretty good and am interested to see where it goes. The really unfortunate thing is that it is an RPG and it's on a per character basis so if you get far as one character but want to switch you have to grind out older levels. For some reason your base stats and weapons level up based on your subweapon levels, it's really strange. Everyone starts out with not much. It's also a bit disappointing that seemingly only shanoa gets advanced movement abilities. Everyone gets a doubel jump, crouch slide, and most get a divekick but shanoa gets her magnet shit which allows her to get past certain areas better than others.

its a really good game to be honest. some of the stuff you can do with richter is pretty sweet

unironically
>fun with friends
if you are expecting to play it single player it's meh

It's good with friends but only just okay by yourself.
It's not *bad* but don't go in expecting high quality. It's better than dissonance, that's for sure.

Does richter have special moves from sotn? Haven't unlocked any extra characters yet

Yeah I just played the first level solo and it was kind of boring and it's pretty shitty to die after 15-25 minutes of gameplay. It's very clearly co-op minded, single player should've given checkpoints at least.

Also I feel like the lack of a map editor was a HUGE missed opportunity. I know Konami doesn't care about Castlevania anymore but it would've been pretty cool to see some kind of sequel

>only shanoa gets advanced movement abilities
Soma also gets the yorik soul to set up free jump kick skips anywhere, and puppet master to glitch around and finish some stages much much quicker.
>For some reason your base stats and weapons level up based on your subweapon levels
This is honestly the worst part of the game. Maxing out subweapons is an insane grind that takes far too long to complete. It makes Johnathan one of the worst characters since he has so many subweapons that you're better off going with one of the other vampire killer characters just to reduce the grind.

>I know Konami doesn't care about Castlevania anymore
don't remind me

Just would've liked it to be a bit more fleshed out and the sub weapon grind just makes absolutely no sense to me. I don't know why they can't just have player levels and sub weapons be a set amount of damage and/or scale off your stats. Especially considering there are so few levels

It is a really awesome spin-off game, I wish it released on PC
A bloodstained version would be acceptable too

Soma can zip around stages much better than Shanoa and the characters with jump kicks can glitch their way through walls and shit via abusing physics glitches.
God I miss this game's heyday on the 360 when it first came out, the game was always active and once all the glitches became known it was funny seeing how fast people can break the stages.

I fucking miss the Unity port

I mean you can play the actual game on some versions of RPCS3, the problem is you can't play it online although I guess you could play it through Parsec

That's neat, but the fan-made Unity port was shaping up to be a solid upgrade, if only for the fact that it added the potential of additional characters (As shown with Albus)/custom stages
It was still pretty jank though before the developer pulled the plug, packed everything up and vanished

>Konami couldn't even bother supporting the mobile game spiritual successor beyond ONE fucking update that was almost a year ago already

When a company hates it's own IP so much they even let a mobile game die on purpose before it even hit full release there's no hope for the future of the franchise.

Yeah I tried the unity game, I wanted to like it but everything just felt so off

I just wish he made the shit open source before he vanished
If he took down everything I wonder if he got C&D'd by Konami, in which case that's even more reason to fucking hate Konami

Wow I watched some people speedrunning it, wild how fast you can go

You have no idea
Those threads are still some of the best times I ever had on this shithole

>Mfw first maining Soma despite never playing his games
I recall liking HoD, but it was just too short. Game clearly wanted you to grind out spells and weapons, but when you beat Drac about 6 times in a row with ease it starts to feel pointless. Maybe the DLC added to its longevity since my experience was way back when the game first launched.

Best was chapter 10 since normally it's about a 10-15 minute trek as it's a linear path forcing you to go through almost the entirety of Castlevania 1's map, but soon afterward glitches were found with a set of shortcut elevators (that were supposed to only be opened at the top of the stage right before Dracula in case somebody needed to get to the the start point to refill) that let you glitch through the floor and get to Dracula in under 2-3 minutes.
Then a little later on a glitch was found that let you reach Dracula from the very start of the stage without even stepping foot in the castle.

>you will never run dracula's castle for valmanway again

Has anyone played the mobile game? It sorta looked like a spiritual successor to this.
I never really bothered with the English version, and it's apparently still Canadian only?

Does this game use original sprites and artwork? I haven't played all of the games but god damn some of the enemies and backgrounds are so detailed and awesome and I haven't seen them before

You should play both Aria and Dawn of Sorrow
Aria is peak metroidvania with great music and a pretty interesting story
Dawn is really good too

Yeah it is
I honestly have no idea what the hell is happening with that mobile game anymore
It was supposed to see a Global launch back in October of last year, and apparently its received very few updates

see
They released one update for it and then basically abandoned it. It's still running but it's a ghost town since there's nothing to do in it so everybody left.

Well, that really sucks. It looked fun for what it was.
Guess I'll try emulating it one of these days before it's gone forever.

Oh and Soma isn't even playable.

I have no Idea why they didn't make a switch version, seems perfect for it

It sort of sucks that it was shitcanned as you could tell there was at least a few people who actually cared about the game and it's history. The characters have interactions with each other in cutscenes between stages, the 3D graphics almost perfectly mimic the original sprite work for enemies, Shanoa gets closure with Albus, and it had decent voice acting even though several voices were changed from the DS games.

I put a hell of a lot of hours into that game, and I usually don't play multishit but this was a bit special. I still remember having to defeat that fucker Beelzebub 70+ times before it would drop those fucking speed shoes.By the end I enjoyed going through stages helping out groups or new people to unlock shit. Favorite character to play as was Julius.

It's really shitty that castlevania keeps getting these small projects that clearly have some love put into it but komani doesn't care

HoD was my favorite game of all time. I could play that shit for hours, and did most nights grinding Beelzebub for Speed Shoes and Drac for Valmanway +1. It was so fun, especially seeing people who were clearly better than you and the cool shit they would do.
It was great rushing straight to the chapter 7 boss and styling on her with Maria's Hymn while people held the door and watched. I miss this game so fucking much all the time. I'd kill for a steam port.

I still remember the day Chapter 9 released on the 360.

>join a game doing the chapter, only did it twice offline and didn't know about the super shortcut involving hidden painting
>I'm still putzing around in the castle when the main group gets to Beelzebub and defeats him
>I get the Sonic Boots in my first online attempt at the stage and got kicked out of the lobby afterward

Game bred a lot of salty fucks, I have a 70 percent Trash Talking rating even though I never used a mike, but I did say the "Not Bad!" quotes whenever somebody got killed through their own stupidity.
