Why do modern persona games hate mentioning previous game characters?

Why do modern persona games hate mentioning previous game characters?

P2 had no issue with P1 by showing how they grew. But the same cannot be said of games afterwards unless they're some fan service spin off.

because genuinely no one gives a shit about p1 or 2

not to mention theres literally a p3 calendar on your wall in p4 and rise posters all over p5

Did you skip all the dialog by any chance? There always a subtle clues about previous characters in every persona games even P3 mention a bit about P2 characters despite not being in the same timelines

No one gives shit about p1. p2 was much more popular. p3 has references of p2

You literally go to Gekkoukan in 4

>Why do modern persona games hate mentioning previous game characters?

But there's shitloads of references in 3, 4, and 5. Are you blind?

There were people, who genuinely believed Q2 will be crossover between p5 and p2.

The Kirijo Group is literally a branch of the Nanjo Group.

But I don't want subtle references. I wanna see said character properly portrayed in the actual game even if they are older. Hell in EP two of the p1 characters are actually playable.

why are people missing the point so hard in this thread?
in persona 2 the characters from 1 are integral to the story, they don't just make random cameos.

Anyway it wouldn't really work in the later games since they don't share any continuity while persona 2 is a direct sequel to 1

Speak for yourself. Real Persona fans do care about p1 and 2

>Real Persona fans do care about p1 and 2
Only fedoras care about p1. Same for IF

The fighting games show 3's character progressions

Hashino is a hack.
People say he wanted to "respect" the P1/P2 devs but he has no problem ripping them off (Igor, Tartarus, Nyx, shadows, cognition, etc). I think it's far more likely that Hashino just wants his games to exist in a separate universe so he can have total control and not have to acknowledge the work of others.

First off, the current producer & director doesn't want to use the previous crew's work in case they fuck it up.
Second, there are one line cameos of previous entries in stuff like TV news reads or whatever. You just have to look for them, innocuous but they're there.

The fanservice spinoff games are the canon continuation of the story and directly connects P3 and P4, while P5 hasn't had a chance for that yet. (excluding the memory wipe PQ events)
P1 cast has no relevance to modern events and the majority of them moved on with their normal lives in the canon credits to their game anyway ( the absolute fuckers married off my wife to some literally who businessman, can you believe it?), while the ones that appeared in 2 apparently had that whole P2MC fuckup that separated them forever or whatever it was. (I didn't play 2)
There's no good way to connect them in the first place, what do you even want?

>P1 and P2 are set in mid to late 1990s

>The Apocalypse happend in P2 IS

>Everybody forgot eachother after P2 EP

>Modern Persona games take place from 2009 and onwoard(10 years after P2)

>Bringing back 40 year olds(the OG cast) to involve constantly hangout with highschoolers is weird

>The old cast most likely forgot everything that happend or just dont care anymore

Even if they wanted to bringback the cast from the first two games, how would they do it? Unless they make some story involving timetravel, I dont belive we will see them ever again aside from like a easter egg(like P5 did)

Reminder that P3P had cameos of Noriko & Yukiko of P4 in the Inn and Vincent of Catherine in the Club. Reverse Cameos, if you will.

Because P1 and P2 doesn't exist in Persona universe, literally. P3 is the soft reboot and changed almost everything, so stop comparing them because they are practically a different game.

Along with Q/Q2 & P3P, Catherine Full Body serves as a connecting point as well and is canon.

I really don't like this "bringing old characters into next games/stories". Just let them go. Their stories are over. It is for the better. This shit plagues shounentards who want to see eternal Bleach/Naruto/Old shounes with kids of kids of kids instead of new stories, new characters new settings

the OP never said he wants P1 and 2 characters in the later games, just why the later games never reuse characters from the older games. It would be cool if P5 had direct connections to 4 and integrated the old cast into a new story without stealing the spotlight of the new cast like Nanjo/Eriko in EP or Yukino in IS

P5 kinda does that

adults hanging out with highschool kids seems a bit weird.

the P1 characters are like 3 years older than the P2 cast

Why do you need to see the characters from previous games? Considering how much shit flinging I see between modern persona fags over which game is best I'm glad they don't have more ammo to throw at each other over which game ruined each character by having a cameo without doing a 100% accurate portrayal of all that character's personality traits, and hell even if said mention was done right people would just bitch about how the character turned into a trope because there's always someone around with a reason to complain about meaningless shit. Stuff like is pretty alright.

post-P2 persona involve mostly highschool sim, how are you gonna shoehorn old cast into it?

new game take place 2 years after old game
now you have variety in characters and not adults hanging out with teens. the post p2fags are begging for persona in college anyway there you go

Only way it'd work was if the cameos were from younger or non-human members of the previous cast. So people like Ken, Teddie, or Morgana.

Persona 1 and the first Persona 2 take place in the SMT multiverse. The second Persona 2 onwards takes place in a self-contained universe that's Philemon's demon domain after he got stomped by Nyarlathotep at the end of the first Persona 2.

The only thing I want to be brought back is the Philemon/Nyarlathotep conflict.
Really, after three games, I am tired of "this deity was behind all the shit happening at this town now beat them up". I just want something more grand. And yes, I am still mad about the malevolent entity.

>They also tease Kanami, but you know that she'll never make an appearance ever again
Why does the universe hate me?

No one cares about small minority of /smtg/. those p2fags hate p3/4/5.

>Philemon/Nyarlathotep conflict
>somehow not "this deity was behind all the shit happening at this town now beat them up"

If...-Bros, where we at?

did you all somehow miss the teddie cameo in mementos where he talks about the p4 epilogue? there's no trophy for it so i guess most retards never even found it

At the very least, you know what's up from the very beginning and the whole thing is basically about the duality of man. Which is very fitting for the franchise. 3 kinda did alright with the whole death thing, but I really dislike the way 4 and 5 handled the "the game is now basically finished BUT SURPRISE there's this motherfucker behind it all" scenario.

Persona 4 was set in 2011, P5 take place 5 years later in 2016

Clip?
