When did Mario games become easy?

Recently played Super Mario World on an emulator.
Beyond the first few levels the difficulty ramps consistently and it's great.
Not some special optional challenge levels, or post game levels or any of that, just regular levels that are challenging and require good play to complete.

It got me thinking, what happened?
What happened bros.

Mario World is drastically easier than Mario 3, and Mario 3 is drastically easier than Lost Levels.

So it started there.

super mario world is one of the easiest games, so your example is truly retarded.
mario bros 3 is much better paced

I am a modern gamer so it was difficult for me ok? Please understand. Ok.

New mario bros series and odyssey are magnitudes easier than world.

They became easy with World. You get mushrooms all the time. Compared to Mario 1, there's only like two or three mushrooms total in the 8-x levels, and 8-4 has none.

after the gamecube all nintendo games went to shit. satoru iwata destroyed it all by forcging constant retarded gimmicks but making the actual games boring safe and tokenized as fuck

Luigi U was pretty hard. I know it’s not technically a full game but still.

Honestly, wtf were nintendo thinking when they made Lost Levels? Did miyamoto hate japanese kids That much?

So much this, I'll never understand people sucking Iwata's chin chin

I don't think they had really figured on what they needed to do for iterations yet. It was basically a filler title while they made Mario 3 anyway.

The low time limit, half-length stages really takes the fun out of Luigi U for me.

The idea was that it was aimed specifically at veteran SMB1 players.

Lost worlds doesn't really count because it was literally made to be hard super mario bros. Threes difficult is sporadic as fuck. Plus I'd say yoshi's island is harder than world.

I think it started after 64 honestly. Sunshine is full of safety nets, and galaxy is simplified too. I think this carried to NSMB but to be fair its been a bit since I played it so it could be harder to world..

SM64. Everything before that was challenging except for SML2 and SML3 if that counts

Mario’s always been easy

man I'll always love the SPECIAL levels

Kids today have different gaming priorities that old Mario platformers don't align with so they're too hard for them. They'll spend hundreds of hours building shit in minecraft, but they can't be bothered to figure out a platformer. Tastes change and the only way for Nintendo to not lose a kids attention is to make the game a cakewalk and hide the tough levels at the end for people who want that.

nu-gamers don't know what fun is. Easy mode is for clowns

As far as the OG trilogies go in terms of difficulty
Mario>Ninja Gaiden>Castlevania for me. I don't know when the 'Mario is for casuals' meme started. It's actually hard as shit

Yeah Yoshi's Island is Harder than World for sure, and getting all 100s probably makes it harder than 3 overall aswell.

I like that you just blow up a building that's in your way and there happened to be a giant turtle inside.

Oldfag here. People thought SM64 was difficult when it was new. Yeah that seems silly now, but it was the first 3D game for a lot of people.

Actually I didn't blew it up. I was just shooting into the air. Usually you get there and nothing is there. And after a while that monster bursts through the wall.

Mario’s way easier than those though. How the hell do you find it harder?

Super mario world balances things by giving you the cape, which is bullshit. It's actually pretty interesting to replay it just using fireflower.

Hm, that's interesting. Also I find Crash 1 to be much harder than SM64

this is a joke right

crash is a shit game... the jumping, level design, hitboxes and game ideas in that game are pure shit. Battletoads is hard and good. Crash is a mess and a badly made and badly designed "game". It's worse than bad indie games today

Man I just don't know. I've played all of those games a shitton of times and can breathe through both NG and Castlevania while Mario still remains fairly challenging
