Why do gamers take themself so seriously...

Why do gamers take themself so seriously ? Is it because big companies put big money in those events so they believe it's like sport, or do they actually think that games like smash bros or league of legends deserve to be play all day long, while comfy gamers play multiple games and enjoy discuting them with their friends ?

Why would regular sports be considered something superior to e-sports? Just curious.

Cuz e sports is hype and if I play LoL on my $3000 built pc I can flex and look like a pro LoL player to my friends. I'll look like an important person because I'm going to jump in on the streamer bandwagon so I can look cool and pro. I can play Valorant and LoL all day because all the streamerz are doing it and I'll look cool because it's trendy as fuck in the e sports community.
Legit met someone who gets all hyped about meeting new people who game and expects them to play LoL. When asked what games he plays he only plays LoL. Now he's expanding his taste to Valorant.

>Why do sportsfags take themself so seriously ? Is it because big companies put big money in those events so they believe it's like competition, or do they actually think that sports like football or baseball deserve to be play all day long, while comfy sports fans play multiple sports and enjoy discuting them with their friends ?

It's not about being considered as a sport but taking itself seriously. Sport takes itself seriously because it involves physical changes and isn't impact by the economy. Publishers decide which video game will be esport, and while it can demand reflexes and use your brain, video games are branded. Especially games like LoL which are f2p and invest in the fact that gamers will buy runes and stuff like that to be ranked faster. They literally can change the whole meta of the game for marketing purposes.

>Publishers decide which video game will be esport
Kind like how corporations decide what sports will be popular.

Basketball and football are actual self-sufficient industries, e-sports is all just glorified advertising

>publishers decide which video games will be esport
To an extent. They can try and force it as hard as they want but if people don't want to watch it then no amount of money can save it. See Overwatch League, they've tried so hard to pump money into it but it's still decaying because it's a bad competitive game.

You mean like Super bowl that's the biggest sport event in the world that's just a glorified ad show?

do your fucking research before talking about stuff you dont know shit about

It’s just fun to watch people play at the highest level. Whats wrong with that

One has a thousand years of history.
The other doesnt.

pro athletes do legitimately impressive physical/mental feats. e-"sports" faggots just play video games.

Sports and e-sports fans are both faggots who take things too seriously. Fans have died in fights because one team beat another one.

To be fair I don't think you will ever see e-sports fan go out in the cities and riot like monkeys. Not for at least 100 years.

Like hell they are. They rely on merchandising which is the esport equivalent of crowdfunding. The seats don't pay salaries. The shirts fans are wearing do.

>old good

You already see them kill each other in asia. Like traveling from one end of china to the other to kill some dude because he sniped your kill or whatever.

>discuting

DISCUTER RANBU NO TACHI

Esports will always suck because to enjoy them you have to already have a relatively high level of understanding of the game being played. Sports require you to only have the most basic knowledge of the game to enjoy watching it. I can watch Mahomes throw a 70 yard bomb for a touchdown and immediately understand why that was cool without any depth of understanding about football. If I watch someone get a penta in LoL, as someone that doesn’t play LoL, I have no idea what the fuck just happened or how cool it was without the announcers telling me. That is why esports suck and will always suck.

You’re only offended by esports because you associate them with the football chads in high school who beat you up and fucked the girl you liked

because esports is not local, you don't have national teams or local clubs/leagues to root for, and they're all 18 year old nerds from rich parents gaming all day so its hard to relate for most people
speaking of branding, look at this clone factory shit

If it stood the test of time then yes it's good for a reason retard

I'll take esports seriously when its mostly VR and it requires for you to be fit to move and react fast.

We're talking about regular people here, so ch*nese dont count

Here’s why people hate esports
>want to play game
>everyone playing game is super try hard esports faggot
>can’t even relax and play fun pick up games
Compared to
>football is a professional sport
>can have a fun pickup game with friends
>nobody screaming about how we need to run RPOs because it’s meta
>just having fun with zero expectations
Fuck esports. It’s fucking cancer. Let games be games and if a competitive scene grows organically from that then great. Trying to force this shit is lame.

No, you don't. You're just incredibly closed-minded to an entirely new stimulus you don't understand. You watching esports is the equivalent to a four year old staring at football on t.v.. It's not until you rehearse it later and learn the rules of the sport that it makes sense.

The problem is you did that at such an early stage in life you've fucking forgotten. New thing bad, familiar thing good.

But your argument implies that nothing that is new can be good, because you aren't giving it time to develop itself.

This

its hard to accept the fact that the focus of their lives is entirely just a hobby, so they need to create purpose and value where there isn't any

And how is it different from being a movie star, being a sports player, being a food critic, being an artsy fag etc.?

>Clumsy friend who hurts someone in a pickup game
>The captain who tries to pick a winning team instead of just playing with his bros
>Same dude makes a fantasy football league and talks shit when in reality I haven't adjusted the roster in weeks and have been playing a dude who blew out his knee in the pre-season
>His girlfriends dad who bases his infinite knowledge on the 3 games he got to play for his D2 high school
It's like you're not even trying.

Because I can do art without pretending, I can play sport without pretending, but almost every esport has try hard communities that shit on each other. That's why he said they're taking themself too seriously. It's actually easier for a fatfag to enjoy playing soccer with people at the gym than any new dota player to enjoy their 50 first played hours

sport players lead healthy lives, health is always a good pursue
food critics contribute to the constant evolution of gastronomy, the link between cuisine and culture
artsy fags contribue to another of the things that makes us human, expression and art movements
movie stars contribute to one of the great modern arts, cinema

Like what exactly? Every sport I can think of has stayed at about the same levelk of relevance since they were invented.

>sport players lead healthy lives
Most sports player fuck up their body making it completely messed up their entire life when they reach middle ages.

>modern arts, cinema
>arts
Watching streamers could be conisdered more artsy than cinema

>food critics contribute to the constant evolution of gastronomy, the link between cuisine and culture
So does streamers and e-sports players, they constantly contribute between the link of gaming and culture.

I can get behind you with each of them besides the artsy fags. They have no use to society.

the thread is about gamers at large, streamers and youtubers are not representative of most gamers
its not a fair comparison because "gamer" is not a job or a career for almost anybody, yet the others that you listed are

>streamers and youtubers are not representative of most gamers
That's literally what they are.

Melee

Nigger I played Halo 2 MLG and was super into Starcraft BW and Starcraft 2. Esports is fucking lame and requires a depth of knowledge that traditional sports don’t.
