Pretty much everything I was going to say but better-put. As 3D visuals improved, dinosaurs became less feasible. In 5th gen they were just as viable as zombies (see Dino Crisis alongside Resident Evil) but now with high quality graphics I imagine it's a lot more time-consuming to do Dinosaurs when you could just do original monsters that don't have to follow all the rules of how the Dinos actually moved. RE6 had some sort of zombie T-Rex though.

Oldschool zombie movies usually resulted in everyone inevitably dying even if they thought they got away, it was more interesting than those power fantasies you mentioned.
