Did you have a crt to play old vidya anons?
If yes pust yours.
If you don't have one that's nice too, (maybe you don't want one).
CRT thread
i emulate everything on handhelds without any filters. i went from the psp to the psv to the switch, i remember how shitty my psx games looked on a crt, why would i want to go back to that? honest question, redpill me
Sauce of the crt model op?
CRTs confuse and anger zoomers.
I threw my Trinitron away
i just emulate everything with a filter now, my original hardware just sits in a cupboard
got rid of my crts ages ago and as a eurofag there's no fucking reason for me to go looking for one since 99% of them are 50hz only
my trinitron and shitty grundig supported 60hz, but they were flat crts and while the trinitron was good, the grundig had terrible geometry and would cut off the HUDs of most ps2 games
Agreed. You can make PSX games look so much better.
Not a CRT necessarily but the PS1 makes heavy, heavy use of dithering the blend colors. If you're going raw pixels then you're missing like half the color information you're supposed to be seeing
Here's a good example; look at the difference in the meters in the bottom right
It's just a matter of personal taste or preferences.
If you're comfy that way good for you.
What games you're emulating user?
i recently tried out ace combat electrosphere, wasn't expecting anime artworks with jap voiceover and eng subs, i was pleasantly surprised
Another example: look at the clouds in the window, or the two lights right below that. You can see the pixels intended for dithering and just how much better the colors transition when blended
What’s a good small stand for a CRT? Seems most stands these days are too narrow or they don’t have enough shelves for consoles. My TV isn’t that big only about 15 inches across so I don’t need a huge stand
Maybe it’s my imagination but CRT’s just look like they have more “depth” to me also, playing games on them just looks so much better and sharper than playing on an LED.
DIY my man.
It's better that way.
that's not true at all, the fact that LCD's are sharper is what is a detriment to playing older games
I use this generic laptop one you can get off amazon I'm sure
I’m not a handyman at all, if I tried it would just fall apart.
Maybe sharper wasn’t the proper word to use, I just find watching movies on tape or playing retro games with a CRT way better than streaming at 4K or playing an HD console
Thanks but that’s not what I meant, I need a stand to put the TV on since right now I’m just using an end table which is kind of useless since there’s no shelves for consoles.
I have two op.
One of them cost me nothing.
Here in Mexico there's a lot of stuff you can get if you lurk a little.
The do the design and pay for someone skilled at that.
Ditch the Playmates Enterprise and get you a superior Art Asylum/Diamond Select one, OP.
a fellow jungle green N64 bro...
Gorgeous.
hmm, I disagree on the 4K comment, I have a 4K OLED with HDR and I watched Predator with both 4K and HDR and it looks absolutely fantastic
CRT definitely makes sprites and DVD's much cleaner for sure though
its the colors, crts have lovely colors
its also the fact that they're not digital, so low resolution content looks better on them
I rather watch movies on my VCR, I love how it looks
I emulate everything before 5th gen. I play my PS1 games on my PS2 and love my Dreamcast although I need to get more games for it. A while back I got rid of my N64 though, didn't play it as much as I wanted or expected to.
There's a large number of reasons. How much you care about them is one thing, but a quick, simple explanation
>crt's arent fixed pixel displays. Games/consoles used all sorts of specific, non 4:3 resolutions with the assumption that the CRT would then stretch the image to the proper aspect ratio. This doesn't work on modern displays due to pixels having set sizes. This means if you're playing games without filters you're either playing at the improper aspect ratio, or your dealing with awful shimmering by stretching to 4:3 and ending up with uneven pixel sizes
>lots of early games used dithering to create more color information than the console was capable of. Without filters or a CRT then you're seeing undithered pixels and missing out on intended color information
>early consoles didnt run at an even 60 hz, usually slightly above or below (59.8 or 60.02 etc). This wasn't a problem for CRT's but modern displays don't like those kinds of signals and emulators almost always just set it at a straight 60. This results in games running slightly slower or faster than intended, bso while slightl you're not playing games at the right speeds. That or you're dealing with constant frame hiccups
>some of the lowest input delay of all monitors, while modern displays have delay when upscaling games. Emulators also have innate input lag not present in consoles (though runahead addresses most of this these days)
I'm sure there's other reasons, but you're definitely making a lot of compromises to the original experience by not using a CRT. How much that matters is personal preference I suppose
It's because the screen is curved. Even most "flat" CRTs are still curved on the inside but with a flat face.
is that auto modellista
CRTrannies are more pathetic than audiophiles
Tokyo Extreme Racer Drift, however I just bought a copy of Auto Modellista so I'm gonna play that soon.
