What went wrong?

Human Revolution:
>human augmentation is a morally-complex issue and we respect the player to form their own opinions on the matter

Mankind Divided:
>anyone afraid of people who can turn into uncontrolled killing machnes at any moment is just a fucking racist bigot

What the fuck happened? There was plenty of room for nuance and debate in the sequel and they completely wasted it.

I work in the Medical Device Industry. Ask me anything.

do u like cheese

Yeah no, Human Revolution had the same problem
>AUGMENTED PEOPLE ARE LIKE BLACK PEOPLE BUT IN THE FUTURE
>WHY YOU HATE AUGMENTED PEOPLE
The only DE game with genuinely, and I mean unironically genuinely good story and themes is the first one.

Can't have anything more complex than a shitty racism allegory because the industry is filled with the pedophile jews that the original Deus Ex pointed its finger at

It absolutely wasn't like that at all. Play the game.

I have. Two times.

HR had the same aug obsession problem but it was a light intro with some fun characters and got a pass, MD is when some writing had to happen but it goes nowhere and can't blame it on world building.

I liked Mankind Divided, my only problem with it was that it was too short, the final boss is just a henchman

>Human Revolution:
>>human augmentation is a morally-complex issue and we respect the player to form their own opinions on the matter
Are you joking? The way the characters talk about augmentations in the first game is completely retarded. They act like being able to do summersaults with your robot legs is a second industrial revolution. Mankind Divided's biggest flaw for me was that it once again acts like augmented people are a good metaphor for every problem facing society; drug addiction, automation, wealth disparity, racism. However, it isn't like any of those things and the game being set so close to the time it was released just makes the disparity between the real world and the game really odd. It's highly unlikely any of those issues I listed will have been resolved by 2029 or whener it's set, but the game doesn't bring up real world problems once. I'm getting stopped by black, female, armed police in the Czech Republic and the game doesn't think anything of it, meanwhile it wants me to engage in another round "what if people had glasses they couldn't take off?!" discourse and I just wasn't buying into it. I gave up not long after Golem City.

Brain dead.

>anyone afraid of people who can turn into uncontrolled killing machnes at any moment is just a fucking racist bigot
But it ended up agreeing with these people who were afraid of them. The serieal killer quest line alone was reason enough.

God I love this game so much, wish I still had something I could play it on

I've seen (a few) people with fancy looking prosthetics, mainly hand/arm. Fancy looking as in they are black with gold highlights, I think one was a little girl with the actual arm prosthetic from these games. Are prosthetics, just like the augments in these games, typically a rich person only privilege? I don't mean rich person as in living in the western world, but truly rich. I've seen wayyyyyyyy more people with hand deformities that just walk around with a stump for a hand or a stump with 1 or 2 bum fingers. Is it feasible to just chop it off and replace it with an advanced prosthetic? Do they not do that because it's too expensive?

Is it on PC?

don't have a good PC I'm afraid

the "augmented = minorities" things was pretty heavy-handed in HR by having a lot of outright bigot strawmen, but they did at least acknowledge the complexity of it in conversations

>subpar story, themes and characters
>flawed mechanics (looking at you, power bar)
>third-person-but-only-when-in-cover shit
>atrocious boss fights
>final level is genuinely one of the worst things in gaming
>push-a-button ending
>orange tint everywhere to tone down the graphical inadequacies

Then you didn't pay attention twice. There's no racebaiting in HR.

It opens with an augmented person bombing a train station and the literal antagonist of the game is an augmented person too

where did I say that there was racebaiting? I said that augmented people in HR were treated like blacks were treated in olden times

I liked HR a good bit but stayed away from this and completely forgot it existed because of the Praxis pay 2 play features on release — do I buy it now? Do I get any DLC for it? Do I stay away?

Hi Adam.

You're correct but you also assume that you should be agreeing with both of those points.
You're playing as a cybernetic supercop who was made into a machine against his will. Of course he's gonna question whether it was the right thing. In Mankind Divided people treat him like shit, it no longer matters whether he chose augments or not, so of course he's gonna get defensive.
It's not explicitly pointed out that Adam is supposed to be right, it's just the PoV which you're playing from.

Would you rather receive a hug from Adam Jensen or JC Denton?

JC because he is autistic like me

Yes. You can buy it for like $7 when it goes on sale, and it's well worth it.
Microtransactions still exist but the game is well balanced without them and they're not intrusive. I didn't even realise they existed when I first played.
The game's main weakness is that its main story is short and ends abruptly. However the game is cheap now and there's a crapton of side content so it's not so much of a problem any more.
The Criminal Past DLC is the best DLC so far, but the rest is disposable.

Adam's apartment was the comfiest fucking shit in the whole game desu

Ill never forgive nuDeusEx for straying away from the poor vs rich, power vs no power, control vs anarchy of the og game. Cybernetics were just a tool. It would be like if today people went from against income inequality to protesting against something stupid and... actually nevermind now I get it.

Not same user, but study bionic engineering. The technology still not reached that far that replacing your arm with a prosthetic one would worth it. Its around 3-4k dollars for an arm so i wouldnt say its that expensive.

You forgot
>OG Deus Ex
>what if all conspiracy theories were true just for shit and giggles LMAO
>except we actually researched the arguments behind these conspiracies and put them into the narrative with significantly more depth than the dead serious WOT IF METAL LIMBS memes

A toaster PC?

This. The "all conspiracies are true" stuff actually worked in the original because they were complimentary to the main themes of the game.

>acts like augmented people are a good metaphor for every problem facing society; drug addiction, automation, wealth disparity, racism.
But augmented people encapsulate precisely all of those things. Characters bring them up to argue for or against augmentation all the time. It's a nuanced approach that provides you with plenty of differing perspectives and leaves you to form your own opinion, unlike the sequel.

>I'm getting stopped by black, female, armed police in the Czech Republic and the game doesn't think anything of it
Why should it? Prague was stated to be a huge international hub in this universe before the incident. The gangs in Detroit featured all different races as well. Do you want the enemies to all look the same or something?

Seriously, what is your point here? You're failing to get it across.

I didn't mind it so much in Mankind Divided because Human Revolution's hyper-focus on augs already set a low bar. The issue is contrived and it's apparently the only topic of conversation in the world.
