What makes Nintendo so much different from every other other studio? What is their secret?

The game was in development for like 8 years
It only took them a couple decades
>effortlessly
Are you calling them lazy? Sure it could use a bit of polish here and there but I think they put a lot of effort in.
They don’t care about graphics
>effortlessly blows out every other game in the genre
>effortlessly
A seven year development cycle is not effortless. And, as much as I like BotW, they didn't really invent most of the stuff in the game. They basically took the best ideas from all previous open world games, polished them, then put them into one game.
BotW is more a compilation of all open world games. Which does make it the best by technicality. But there's plenty that can be improved upon in the sequel. Especially the fucking music.
>What is their secret?
They had like half of Monolith Software at their disposal and they've been making large worlds for a while
>What makes Nintendo so much different from every other other studio? What is their secret?
Nintendo come up with a gameplay concept or idea first and then build a video game around it.
Most other developers - especially western devs - will reverse-engineered a game BACKWARDS starting with the marketing first.
Its a colossal embarrassment that Nintendo shamed every other open world developer with their first ever attempt at the genre.
Soul. Unironically.
The physics engine that made all these interlocking systems work together was groundbreaking.
>Its a colossal embarrassment that Nintendo shamed every other open world developer with their first ever attempt at the genre.
Yes, they did.
They saw the mountain and got Link to climb it.
>instantly and effortlessly blows out every other game in the genre
Best bid buget open world game, but I think you could make a strong argument for Subnautica or Outer Wilds
BOTW is really fucking boring, though. It's simple kiddieshit with gay puzzles. I'd like it if I was 10, though.
Its just havok user
>interlocking systems
he's talking about what the devs call the chemistry system
By copying ubisoft towers/outposts and shadow of the colossus lmao
2D ain't the same as 3D. But yeah the original NES game and BotW share a design philosophy.
Nintendo often waits until something has been around for a while before picking it up and trying their own take on it. They do it with hardware and games. You often see Nintendo credited with doing "the first" this or that, but the truth of the matter is most those things were around a lot longer.
Most games are in development that long.
Ubisoft now strive to make their open world games as good as BotW.
Pure marketing, there's nothing of botw on asscreed odyssey
Cope harder nincel, zelda is a rip off of 83736483 other games, everything in it was literally copied from other people's work
Nintendo tend to show everyone "how its done" and sets the standard for every to copy.
Perfect recent example is their mini classic consoles. Plug-in-n-play trash has been around all century. But Nintendo released a serious official made product with cute minuturised hardware and official pads. Now thats what EVERYONE does.
>Most games are in development that long.
Even if you think all games are AAA games, which is stupid, even most AAA games have 1-3 year development cycles. It's rare to see a game with 5+ years. The few that have such long cycles are known, because it's only been a couple dozen like DNF, FFXV, Ocarina of Time and so on.
Christ that ass-sting is still raw 4 years on.
Odyssey's exploration mode was a joke. Literally just get close to objective, it prompts you to use eagle, then you find the objective marker you were looking for with X ray vision.
let's assume i ain't gonna run and buy me the proprietary hardware for a single game, any way of playing this thing outside the realm of nintendo's own devices?
Breath of the wild is unironically a 6 out of 10 lol. It's literally zelda dead island edition
Imagine having to invent fake scores to cope.
Agreed. However this might also help to explain why it's so good. It had the years of development it needed to be good instead of shipping in a shitty state.
>gets outsold by RDR 2 in its first weekend
>gets same score as RDR on metacritic
>rdr 2 inspires botw 2, meanwhile chadstar ignores botws existence when making its masterpiece
I’m starting to get tired of botw cope threads guys
The physics system and how it's implemented into the world is a really large part of what makes it stand out. The game overall is pretty empty but it's the closest we have to a full cohesive open world so far.
There's always emulation if you're desperate enough. Be warned though, seethers will try their utmost to convince you its le ultimate way to play because they're deluded enough to think this somehow upsets Switch owners.
You need a beast of a PC and a gyro enabled controller.
Game Of The Decade

G̶a̶m̶e̶ ̶O̶f̶ ̶Y̶e̶a̶r̶ ̶2̶0̶1̶8̶
Fucking KEK
The game suffers from an ass load of performance issues. Sorry I have standards fag.
No it's not. Outwards world is far better connected and much more cohesive. Breath of the wild only looks cohesive because of its art style. It's easy to blend land scapes when your game is a cartoon fantasy land
>rdr 2 inspires botw 2
What?
>The game suffers from an ass load of performance issues.
No it doesn't
>Sorry I have standards fag
lmao its one of the most acclaimed video games in history. Don'cha like video games son?
>shooters become popular
>nintendo casually decides to give it a try
>instantly and effortlessly blows out every other game in the genre
>as a bonus, they also completely revolutionize the flawed console shooter control scheme, allowing for an unmatched aiming experience, fixing and liberating an entire genre from complete dogshit controls
other companies need to wake the fuck up and start paying attention
>It's easy to blend land scapes when your game is a cartoon fantasy land
Oh look, another guy who acts like he knows shit about art when he doesn't. And hasn't played the game he's complaining about.
Splatoon is fucking amazing, with almost no skill ceiling.
If you can shoot at the floor, you're winning. My 4 year old daughter can play it with me.
>>effortlessly
>The game was in development for like 8 years
yea the fucking sank a whole console before this came out, OP is a SIMP
It's not so much that Nintendo blew everyone out as much as just reviving arena shooters. True that other companies shouldn't have ignored arena shooters as much as they have. But it's not like Nintendo invented them. Nintendo is just exploiting the stupidity of other companies. They're also reviving the adventure genre with Luigi's Mansion games.
Pay big money to critics, simple and easy.
Really sad how the only way to get a BotW thread going is by baiting others into flamewarring with claims like everything else being shit and and BotW being the best. When was the last time a BotW thread that started normal reached even 300 replies? I surely dont remember. There's nothing to talk about.
Naw it does have some performance issues. They're not nearly as bad as some games, but it does have a fair few. Never bad enough to really hurt the game for me, but I can see it being game breaking for elitists
Read the article. Aonuma said no such thing. He just said some of the youngsters on the team had played it.
Your seething rage over BotW has spiralled into mental illness. Get help.
Close the thread. This + the best original music compositions in the game industry is why Nintendo has reigned supreme since they first started making vidya.
Yeah this was the kinda cope I meant. Like just daily cope.
based and SOULpilled
>What is their secret?
game first money later development backed by a AAA dev
What are the 83736483 games they ripped off?
BotW threads turn to shit after about 20 replies.
I've seen myself deliberately make BotW threads just to contain certain well-known autists for several hours.
Now that’s what I call seething volume 10
To be fair BotW was in development hell for quite some time, didn't help that Nintendo struggled its way into HD development. But what does set the game apart from the competition on a basic level is the use of basic physics and rules that can be manipulated for different outcomes.
this.
theres no pretentiousness involved.
they set out to make a game people and have fun with and feel good about and they succeeded
Yeah and here you are in a BotW thread. Hysterical huh?
BotW threads that don't start with bait just die after 20 replies. No one cares about this empty game unless its cultists spam threads about how its the best game of all time and everything else is shit.
arena shooter or not, gyro aiming is easily the best thing to ever happen for console shooters. its an amazing solution to fixing an entire genre of games across a multitude of platforms. the sooner it becomes industry standard the better
>Speaking in an interview with the outlet, Aonuma was asked what games the younger staff on his team had been inspired by during development. “[Something] I did hear that a lot of people were playing was Red Dead Redemption 2," was the reply.
Aonouma wasn't inspired by RDR2. He just said some of his staff was playing it. Who knows if anything from that game will make it into BOTW2. But it's not hard to imagine stuff like hunting made it into BOTW1 because someone on the staff was inspired by RDR1. If that's the case, then that was a good decision.
>When pressed on open world inspirations as a whole, he added: "When I was working on Breath of the Wild, the director [Hidemaro Fujibayashi] was playing Skyrim.
And this is also very noticable, as there's a lot of things that seem inspired by Skyrim. It also is funny because BOTW fixed so many issues Skyrim had. From climbing to adding weather effects to better snow areas to less NPC dialogue. BOTW is what Skyrim should have been.
Kek you'll be here all night sperging out past 500 replies. Have fun. I'm going to bed. You'll still be here losing your shit when I wake up.
>Nintendo
>paying critics
>the best original music compositions in the game industry
BotW not included in that. In fact, music has been one of the weakest parts of Nintendo for the last three gens. They need to get Kondo, Yokoi, Ando, Ishikawa and so on to come back more often. The new people they got ever since the GameCube have been very weak.
Playing through this game for the second time bros, forgot how comfy Akala is. The tower was a bitch though
