I know nothing about the source material but I love that games with this level of production value (a solid budget, nothing crazy like AAA but more resources than indies) is on the rise the past couple years. This game doesn't seem amazing but it looks like good fun.

Sounds like a you problem. The only thing that became guaranteed shit in the 2010s was AAA publishers and the inflation of their marquis titles and all the problems that that trend brought with it.

Didn't make that connection but I'll take it. Seems like less mobility-based than Prototype, but if it in turn has Prototype combat but with more polish then I'm in. Prototype 1 was sick but enemy design was off and Alex having 0 i-frames on anything was fucked.

Prototype 2's hit stun and enemy recovery make it more playable.

I didn't need it on the dodge or anything, you barely ever needed to dodge in the first place. Alex can be hit during canned, unskippable animations such as him hijacking tanks however, and shit like that just causes jank. My much bigger problem is that the game gives you these combat options, but 2/3rds of the game's enemies are humans that you one-shot with anything and the rest are big heavy enemies that don't even flinch most of the time; the latter would be fine if what flinched them was consistent but it isn't. I could have Muscle Mass up and go for a launcher and it would actually launch them like 30% of the time it lands.

Only idiots say something like that. Prototype 1 had you get stuck in death loops from enemies each taking their licks in until you died. You basically had to pray someone hit you far away so you could get up.
