Here’s what worries me about Breath of the Wild 2: Every time I get a desire to go back and play the original BotW game, I start it up and mess around for a few minutes and then immediately get bored of it. It’s one of those games that are amazing experiences the first time you play them but after that it honestly is kind of bland, at least that’s my experience with BotW and it seems like that’s not uncommon of an opinion. So that already is something to consider about BotW2 since it, being a direct sequel, will probably largely recycle a lot of gameplay and mechanics, but on top of that is the fact that it has been confirmed that it’s reusing the exact same map as the first BotW. Obviously there’s going to be more to it, new areas, a lot of stuff redone, and probably temples and stuff, but I can’t help but to think that recycling the original map will contribute to the game feeling boring and bland from the beginning, or at least quicker than it’s predecessor.
What do you guys think? Am I missing something? Do you think I’m wrong? This isn’t a shitpost by any means as I was a fan of the original BotW and am looking forward to see how they change things up, but I’m a little concerned about how stale it might end up being to play through. The point of this post is to get a good discussion going, so tell me your thoughts.
I honestly feel the same, I think doing a direct sequel without a major timeskip was a mistake. I’d rather go back to this Hyrule as the next reincarnation of Link to see how much has changed. Instead it’s the same kingdom from last time, with seemingly no changes because it looks like it’s been three years at most

>being a direct sequel, will probably largely recycle a lot of gameplay and mechanics I gather the sense they will reuse assets but are going to forgo the non-linear design
Leo Watson
>but on top of that is the fact that it has been confirmed that it’s reusing the exact same map as the first BotW. gonna need a source on that one, chief.
Jonathan Murphy
they claimed it will have the same setting, they didn't outright state they will reuse the same topography
I get that it's set in the same world and will reuse assets, but they wouldn't actually just reuse the whole game map... right?
Gabriel Russell
I could see them specifically reusing the land around the hyrule castle, and building an extensive labyrinth underground for the game to primarily take place in.
Henry Brown
>an extensive labyrinth underground for the game to primarily take place in Having the majority of the game take place underground sounds awful. Even having it be half or a quarter of the game would be a monotonous nightmare.
Parker Taylor
Pretty clear there will be a full new “World” underground. They will reuse the old map as well because why not. If they didn’t it would make the world feel limited and whatever reason they invent for why you can’t go walk around Hyrule again would be obviously artificial.
As to your overall point that you get bored when you try and play Breath again... what matters is how you felt the first play through. What matters in the sequel is their ability to recreate the sense of magic of exploration in the first game. There has never been a Zelda game that actually has intentionally good replayability.
John Bell
Apparently its the same map but redesigned because of Ganondorf's awakening. They said expect major changes, flying islands, and all that shit. I really hope we don't get that shitty skyward sword flying mechanic.
Logan Parker
Let's get some theory crafting going. Why's Ganondorf underground and what exactly is that mysterious hand attached to his chest?

>Every time I get a desire to go back and play the original BotW game, I start it up and mess around for a few minutes and then immediately get bored of it. That's (You)r problem. Not mine. I played the game for 220+ hours on WiiU a couple years back. I've since put over 100 more hours to the game on CEMU, on a couple different PC systems at that. Every single one of my "Just a quick benchmark run around the beginning! :)" runs have always stretched out to be some multi-hour marathons.
I just hope there are more towns and characters and shit, because that’s my favorite thing about Zelda games. I want the world to really feel alive. I’m worried that it’s going to be all gloom under Gannon’s wrath and everything is going to be bleak as hell and the world will feel dead and empty.
do you hate zelda games or something, god damn it dude, breath of the wild is the most unzeldur it has ever been

How would you feel about a Majora's Mask-style time loop?
You'd lose all your weapons and stuff you've found at the start of each loop, meaning they could actually drop the durability system but still give you a constant stream of new equipment and not just allow you to hold onto whatever you find. It could even borrow a little from more recent games like Outer Wilds, and have primary progression based on knowledge. You'd be able to directly go straight to endgame if you've already worked out how to get there and what to do. In that regard, it'd be similar to Breath of the Wild, in that the end of the game is available from the start.
Xavier Peterson
Holy shit I think you solved it. Quick drop all your other knowledge before the Nintendo Ninjas RIP the thread
Andrew Richardson
That would be great but way too bold of a design decision for modern Nintendo to make. You will never see a triple A game like Majora's Mask again.
Oliver Morgan
long time Zelda fan and I wouldn't call BotW an "amazing experience", not even the first time I just fucking hate open world, no wait excuse me, "open air" is it now? the next game better add a lot more linearity or it's going to be another bland minecraft/animal crossing type experience again my expectations are pretty fucking low at this point
Asher Rodriguez
>You will never see a triple A game like Majora's Mask again. Prepare to eat your words when they drop the sequel.
Kayden Brooks
This is probably the only good game idea I've ever seen posted on Zig Forums
Eli Garcia
Dude, the original root of Zelda is open world discovery you ignorant moron. OoT is not the first Zelda.
Evan Turner
I didn't like Zelda (1) either you go around and find things at random no structure, no difficulty progression the same thing happened in BotW, you find a shrine, you solve it in seconds, you're out I don't want any of that
Sebastian Gutierrez
Can we have actual dungeons this time? The Divine Beasts were bland, as were the Shrines. Make weapons repairable. Increase enemy variety.
James Taylor
Luckfully, they don't make zelda games to cater to your specific retard needs
Ian Harris
that's uh honestly why I had the reaction of "Wow! I love this game, and its game engine, but I wish it had more content (and honestly more soul)"
Logan Wilson
idk, it was a good game and i've had a go at replying it a few times to no avail. also friend of mine (they are shitty at games) asked me to get past the first lynel encounter and holy shit breaking weapons is fucking stupid and contributes to a lot of the problems replaying the game. that and the exploration aspect is just dead once you beat it once collect all shrines and explored most of the map. since weapons break and getting guardian weapons gets pretty easy no point in exploring for anytihing besides nuts which NTY
