Ironically the only reason I didn't jump into them when I was younger is that there was an asshole who named and has his avatar as Kos'Mos in the mmo (Shin Megami Tensei Imagine) I was playing when I was younger.

Megaten is peak JRPG
Dragon Quest is the default setting for "fine" JRPGs
Final Fantasy is wildly inconsistent with high peaks but incredibly low troughs
And Xeno games are shit
Meanwhile the shittiest thing you could say about a Megaten game is that it's not up to the series' consistently high standards

Xeno and FF are gone at the start because Xeno only has a few games, and even less that are finished/refined experiences, while FF is gone because like half the series sucks and the rest is just pretty good.
That just leaves DQ and SMT, and that's a rough choice. I'm going to go with SMT because it has a wider amount of spinoffs, most of which i'd be sad to see go, but it's a really hard choice.

I'll admit it's simplistic compared to the rest of the series but I feel like it is good for people that don't want to feel overwhelmed. Also you really get to experiment with all possible comps of party members where other games kind of encourage finding only one comp.
