Because the actual premise of the source material is basically a video game. In a world where cyborgs, demons, and gods all keep attacking Earth, which itself is simultaneously not important yet super important for no other reason than Goku lives there, and the heroes primarily rely on buff stacking and using beams with different names and colors but the same general effect it makes it easy to shit out a game that can remain true to the source material

You must be kicking yourself, as for me if I knew that it was supposed to get good with LoG 2 I would keep playing because I couldn't gett into the first one even though I was obsessed with all things DB at the time.
