Miyazaki is a hack?

>checkpoint is somewhat far from the bossfight
>option 1: kill all the enemies, preferably without making a single mistake, time consuming af
>option 2: run past all the enemies, praying so that they don't randomly fuck you over, still time consuming
>both options are fucking retarded
what did they mean by this?
>inb4 filtered
No, I am not done with the game, I just don't understand the design decision behind this. Why every single soulslike not done by fromsoft abandons this shit idea, but when I want to try and play the og, I have to deal with this crap? I can't even learn the boss patterns because of that.

Thats the best about the OG that is DS1. I loved 3 and 2 but they are just action games, DS1 is what I always thought Dungeons and Dragons was, a merciless dungeon but fair if you are careful.

Going through the cemetery for dat fire weapon is awesome, hard but rewarding. If it's not hard, it's not rewarding. Git gud bro.

You're forced to make a choice, either you play slowly but carefully, or you take a risk and rush through, the player actually engages with the game.

This is like game design 101 dude.

Is there a better area in all of video games than the Undead Burg through the Parish?? Starting a new character in DS1 makes everything feel alright.

It isn't risky to rush though. Its just random. Its about whether enemy cockblocks on a choke point or not. It's also time consuming and boring either way. Fighting shit enemies is boring and going past them is just a matter of going forward for 1 minute each time you die to a boss, which is also boring.
>the player actually engages with the game
I don't engage with the game, I just run past it

You might be spoiled by AAA games. When it was released it was fun to engage even the most basic enemies because you could parry them and they will block and dodge. You progress by being methodical and careful, that's the point of the game. Go play ass creed.

You can go from the bonfire to the Taurus demon in under two minutes if you know what you're doing

I don't play many AAA but that besides the point. It's not that I don't like playing this game in general, it's that I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS SPECIFIC DESIGN IDEA that I described. It's shit no matter how you look at it.

>praying so that they don't randomly fuck you over
What is random here? Enemies have set attacks and aggro ranges so if you get hit odds are you misjudged their range or got caught pressing buttons.

Take the run up to the Taurus demon through the burgs. Only enemies are hollow warriors, an archer, a couple blokes with firebombs that have piss poor range, and a knight. You also have a shortcut you can unlock from the bonfire meaning you skip most of the enemies entirely.

How are you consistently or even "randomly" getting hit when these enemies have the most basic attacks and telegraph them easily?

F I L T E R E D

Maybe you will understand it if you persevere. But I doubt it.

Yeah, but why am I supposed to waste about 1-2 minutes of my life every time the boss 2 shots me? The way I see it, it's just made to pan out the play time and frustrate new players.
Sometimes one enemy will block the stairs for me. Maybe it's not that important, but it frustrated me enough to make this thread

Lmao yeah it’s frustrating and that’s why I love it

People are STILL whining about Dark Soul's difficulty these days? Seriously?

>kill all the enemies, preferably without making a single mistake, time consuming af
You're retarded
You can safely ignore several enemies on the way to the Taurus demon while taking out all of those standing directly in your way

So, you are still wasting a ton of time trying to kill the boss, without actually fighting the boss? Seems like shit design to me.

Drop the game it’s not for you

Once the gameplay "clicks" it becomes easy. Never ever button mash, press all action buttons once, timing is important. Try to keep a half bar of stamina reserved for dodging/blocking. Taurus Demon attacks are very slow and telegraphed, he has no combos, just big single strikes. Do a plunging attack like you did in the tutorial boss. You can beat it, and you'll feel great after.

The goal is to get to the next bonfire, think of each bonfire as a stage, the goal is to get to the end of the "level" not just beat the boss. The boss is just the last obstacle it's not meant to be the only obstacle.

Whats your setup OP? It could be that you're using a build thats not condusive to fun for you. Case in point: i love being a sneaky thief, my first character was a thief and i got my asshole reamed by everything. Then i made a knight (or w/e) and the whole game changed for me. After getting good with the mechanics i went back to the sneaky thief an Lo and Behold it was even more fun.

You suck at the game and you are searching for ways to rationalize it to avoid feeling like you suck at the game

What do you mean?
Do you just want the level to be empty?
Were you expecting a boss rush game?

To add to this, locking on is not always the best option, having a free camera and movement can really help in some boss fights

If you're getting killed by the taurus demon then you don't fully understand the combat. You're not wasting time making your way back to the boss, you're learning and getting better at the combat each time you clear out the enemies.

>but they are just action games
Like 1

>ALL of Miyazaki's DLC's reuse areas from the base and/or other games

Yeah, he's a hack.

Free camera filter me. I finished DS1 always targeting, free camera feels a lot less accurate

>why do I have to spend 2 minutes getting back to the part I died at

I'd love to see your reaction to playing something like castlevania or megaman on the nes.

Its more useful advice for later games where enemies move too quick that it makes the camera spaz out or breaks the lock on because they move too far away. The camera is just kinda jank so at times manually controlling it might be needed.

I've never understood how people have issues with the lock-on camera. 90% of the time you'll want to be fighting enemies 1v1 and lock-on makes it much easier to do that. It also means you have your thumb free to roll or use an item rather than letting it be occupied by the analog stick (unless you're going to hold the controller with an awkward claw grip).

are you retarded? Placing enemies between checkpoint and the bossfight is my complaint, not that enemies exist
I picked wanderer, I think I deal alright damage to enemies and boss. I die to boss because of my mistakes and thats alright, but not the fact that I have to waste time to get to fight him again.
You don't learn shit by fighting basic goons what are you talking about? By fighting to the boss fight a few dozen times, you will not get better at fighting the boss itself, because it's simply a different enemy. The combat is basic as fuck, there is not much to learn, its the enemies that are a threat that you need to learn.
Old games do this because they needed to be longer, this game is long enough by itself, without this bullshit.

The group fights in 2 cant be avoided or split up as easily

>Placing enemies between checkpoint and the bossfight is my complaint
and thats a retarded complaint. the game doesnt set out to reward you for getting to the boss. it doesnt take long to get to the boss even if you kill the enemies. if it is taking you really long times to get to the boss, then literally git gud because you need to work on your gameplay, which will improve as you get used to enemy attacks and patterns.

Any time is long time, its literally the same shit as if you had to simply wait before trying to fight boss again. Even if you do everything perfectly, it still takes at least a minute and that's a long fucking time that quickly adds up as you fail to defeat the boss (and the boss fight itself being challenging is totally fine).
