Name a better JRPG that came out this gen
Name a better JRPG that came out this gen
Dragon Quest XI
Literally any of them
Digimon Cyber Sleuth
Nier Automata
Even YIIK?
Wow, literally the first post
Persona 4 Golden
Persona 4 Golden
This.
Not a jrpg
Persona 5.
Romancing SaGa 2
Romancing SaGa 3
SaGa: Scarlet Grace Ambitions
based
Persona 4 Golden.
Persona 4 Dancing All Night was the best jrpg of this gen hands down.
Too dull. Fine game, but it's the blandest JRPG you can play
Haven't played this so I can't comment. Redpill me on it
Lol
Not really comparable, but no
Keep trying P4fags
>rejected by SMT fans
>rejected by FE fans
Maybe if you're intentionally being contrarian....
xenoblade definitive edition the same year
>Too dull
P5 is way more dull though.
>MMO combat
>fetch quests
>360p in handheld
I can't fathom how people enjoy this franchise
It's really not. At the very least P5 has got a distinct aesthetic. DQXI has nothing distinct going for it
MMO combat has at least more engagement beyond "use weakness retard". Plus any fantasy>real life but with powers.
P5's aesthestic is a novelty that wears off as soon as the pacing and dialogue become awfully grating and overall bloated. Shit put me to sleep.
Like DQ might be more by the numbers, but it's way more fun to actually play and experience.
>MMO combat has at least more engagement beyond "use weakness retard"
Nice disingenuous argument
Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition
Persona is half social sim/VN. If you don't like that stuff then that's fine, but it's not a fault of the game, especially when a lot of it's optional
>Half Visual Novel
>Extremely small hub areas
>Use weakness to win
I can't fathom how people enjoy this franchise
>I can't fathom how people enjoy this franchise
Compared to Persona 5? Xenoblade has a better setting, environment design, plot, music, combat and level design.
Because it's fun you cynical fuck
I love VNs though. P5's dialogue is just bloated repetitive dogshit, coming from some of the most boring characters of any JRPG in recent times.
Here Being half VN isn't a flaw, you're just describing the genre. Hub areas are just that - hubs. Calling a hub area small is redundant. Weaknesses don't work on bosses
>Being half VN isn't a flaw
For a game billed as an RPG? It is. Nu-Persona are great VNs but bad RPGs.
Saying it has mmo combat is disingenuous.
WTF is this argument.
>better setting
It's cool but the general gameplay really brings it down. It feels like playing an MMO but it single player which is pretty miserable
>coming from some of the most boring characters of any JRPG in recent times
Is a DQXIfag honestly saying this without a hint of irony?
>the flaws of my game aren't actual flaws and you're being overly critical of minor detractors
>what no ew mmo combat game's bad I don't like it
What's fun about
You're trying too hard
You're acting like Persona doesn't have strong enough gameplay to justify its RPG label or something
It's not
Not him but DQ characters are more interesting than P5
It doesn't. It's a watered down SMT.
>It's cool but the general gameplay really brings it down. It feels like playing an MMO but it single player which is pretty miserable
Not only did you ignore the other points, but you just generalise it as MMO single player BAD. It's especially baffling considering P5 has some of the most braindead turnbased gameplay ever.
>You're acting like Persona doesn't have strong enough gameplay to justify its RPG label or something
Because it's true. One More is a bastardized Press Turn and the RPG gameplay is barely half the game.
Yes it is. You have no argument
pic unrelated, as it didn't come out this gen
Keep coping
They're about as generic as they come. Persona characters certainly have archetypes but the party dynamics are more fleshed out
It has fusions, press turn, buffs/debuffs and negotiations - AKA all of the core components of SMT gameplay. The only difference is that party members have fixed Personas, but Joker can have a pool of mixed Personas so it makes up for it. I never really got where this meme came from
>but you just generalise it as MMO single player BAD
Because it is
>One More is a bastardized Press Turn
Elaborate
>the RPG gameplay is barely half the game
If you're really that asshurt about the social sim elements then why not skip them all? They're optional
>but the party dynamics are more fleshed out
How? They repeat the same cardboard cutout interactions for most of the game's duration. And boy do they keep fucking talking for hours.
Scarlet Grace is entirely gameplay focus where the difficulty scales according to the number of battles you were in.
Also, all battles are event-based so no random encounters.
Character progression is mainly gear focused; with weapon and magic levels. Healing is mainly useless.
Skills are learned by repeatedly using another skill, each having a higher chance of being learned through certain skill use.
Story can be largely ignored unless you're playing uripina but the scenarios contained in each area are pretty good. There's a skip button.
there's more but I don't think I can do it justice unless you experience for yourself by buying it or trying it out for free
>Because it is
Guess you can't explain your reasoning because you know you're full of shit.
>They're about as generic as they come.
Compared to actually great rpgs? Yeah, but compared to P5, DQ manges to be better. The party dynamics are terrible in P5 so wonder why you brought it up.
>can't debunk P5 having braindead turn based gameplay
lol
Characters actually bounce off and interact with each other. I can't really remember any fun interactions from DQ. I mean loli sister died and they were all sad, but that was about it. Sylvando making the MC dress-up for that short scene was pretty amusing I suppose
What is there to explain. It's self-explanatory. A huge appeal of MMO's is the community aspect
>The party dynamics are terrible in P5
They all interact and bounce off each other. I'd say the only two that fall flat in terms of larger interactions are Makoto and Haru, but Haru at least has a back and forth with Morgana
Don't even bother explaining the combo, gem or chain attack systems to that retard, and definitely don't explain how 2 expanded on everything
What's there to debunk? There's the whole fusion system, negotiations, and the actual combat itself which incentivises buffs/debuffs as well as weaknesses. It's solid
I had way more fun with Xenoblade DE and 2. P5's 10h worth of VN story stretched into a 100h VN grew old very fast with fucked up pacing, as are the copy-pasted corridors dungeons and the exploration amounting to visiting the 3 same 100 meters long streets. Combat was nice at first, until you realize it's just a fancier Pokémon with too much weakness abuse, too heavily balanced all on Joker, other party members might as well not exist. I have no desire to replay it ever again, which is a statement to how I feel about it.
