Why do people like kingdom hearts so much?

I've played the first game and I just finished Chain of Memories. What the fuck? Why do so many people cream themselves over it? Does it get good in 2? Is it because everyone played it when they were like 8 and they didn't have the rational thinking skills to discern good plots from bad ones? Or is it because the fanbase is primarily female and there's husbandos?

2 is generally considered the best in the series and a huge improvement over 1. The story is progressively terrible over the course of the series and enjoyment of it is an acquired taste.

I remember in elementary pnly the weird kids played KH

Because the concept of mashing these idiotic Disney characters and all JRPG tropes into one game is so fucking stupid that it somehow becomes good again. It's the video game equivalent of a Frankenstein, therefore it holds a special place in my heart.

I have no idea. I loved the first game and still do, but after that the series went straight to hell. The combat is better in KH II, and some boss battles are pretty good, but the rest of the game is absolutely dead fucking dull. I have no idea why most of the fanbase loves it these days, there was a lot of hate toward it when it came out (and a lot of love, I'm not trying to pretend that 90% of the fanbase hated it, but there was a pretty clear divide, like with FF XII). Looking at some of the latest games, I don't have a single idea how it still has fans. Does it even bring in new fans? How can new fans even get into it when you have to have played every game for the plot to make any sense?

>TFW Girls for M is dead

>How can new fans even get into it when you have to have played every game for the plot to make any sense?
The HD Collections exists.

>Does it get good in 2?
No. The gameplay improves (gets less clunky), but the story goes from charming to shitty autistic babble.
And even less popular: the only good part is the beginning

Yeah, but that only works for people who aren't afraid to play earlier entries in a series. Most people just seem to want to jump into the latest entry.

people play these games for the plot in the sense that they're trailing along for whatever goofy bullshit started when they were 12, kingdom hearts 1 released in 2002 (they are now 30) and there were not a lot of ARPGs at the time so it also distinguished itself as being a very good one. it's also a very long-running franchise so there's an entire world of autism for new tweens to discover and appreciate

the only people who take kingdom hearts' plot seriously are faggoty teenagers who fight with foam keyblades in the park, and people looking for shit to hate about kingdom hearts

Because they are stupid and want to fuck Donald in the butt.

Endgame Bossfights (at least in 2 and 3) and OST's are godlike.
There also some Kino moments in the series like the final bossfight in 2 and this one right here

It's an absolutely ridiculous concept created by pure complete chance of two ceos from both Disney and Square being stuck in an elevator. It's just interesting, Disney characters like Donald Duck fighting unholy abominations of monsters with a unique work around for having characters die without actually saying it, the mc fights with a giant metal Key, the crossovers between different villans working together and the cameos of FF characters, also it's technically a three way crossover between Disney, Square Enix, and fucking Tim Burtons a Nightmare before christmas (the fuck? It just aired on Disney?)and through all of this, it stays on rails and tells a coherent story (FIRST GAME and I guess CoM and 2 but this does indeed in dip by later games) so the story is batshit, but now the gameplay. It's good. The first game was a bit clunky but you can learn to play it well. Chain of memories is hard, annoying and once you learn the different phases to the combos as well as the cheap way of setting up your deck, you can absolutly destroy any semblance of balance the game once had pulling off ars arcanum 20 times and beating battles with out touching the stick. The story in that one however is unironically pretty good for a retread especially character development wise for Sora slowly becoming an asshole due to the memory lose (BUT AMNESIA STATUS QUO BITCH!) the 2nd (actually 3rd) game revamps it and takes it to another level of enjoyment with the edition of forms. 2 is where the story goes off the rails with an organization working together to make a pseudo Kingdom Hearts. Also the amnesia status quo bitch is a plot point of sorts, it's set up to where if you skipped the gba title CoM it still works because the characters treat the events as described to Sora as though he has amnesia to said events, so the player is in Soras clown shoes of sort if they choose to skip that game having same amount of info as he would to said events.
TL;DR games fun and enjoyable.

I'm playing through bbs fm and the last bosses are complete bullshit. They take no damage and have a bunch of shit that you can't react to. It took like 15 minutes to beat the light armor

the intro to kh2 is so fuckin great
that music is top shelf

Just wait until the Secret Episode

Pretty sure everyone agrees that BBS' combat sucks as a whole. ESPECIALLY the super bosses.

If the story had stopped at 2 it would have been fine but later games go all in on the organization and tweest after tweest then there's the time travel that dosn't really make sense and then the machine time travel and then the clones get so out of hand it's ridiculous. but it's really a sunken cost fallacy, if there's another game, I know the gameplay is decent and I like the characters so why not play it? If anything user, finish 2 then decide if you want to stop because 1 was the first getting its footing and re:Com is actually a remake of the gameboy advance title so it's kinda shit copying the gameboy fighting setup.

I mean, why would you want to skip the early ones? They're good games, if you just want to play the latest one, it would be on you if you don't know what's going on.

>Really fun gameplay.
>Fantastic boss fights, especially 2 and 3's data bosses.
>The mix of Disney + FF + OC is pretty neat and leads to some silly and great moments.
>Plot started off grounded and only got more and more ridiculous which made it more and more fun to see how crazy Nomura can get, especially with Re:Mind.
>There is nothing funnier than hearing Woody call Young Xehanort a friendless loser.
>Keyblades are cool as a weapon.
>Magic looks awesome when you use it.
>The OCs are actually pretty great, Roxas in particular.

BBS' bosses suck because of the hitstun issue. You can use Thunder Surge to overcome it all. The secret bosses are the actual rage fuel, especially Mysterious Figure.

>but it's really a sunken cost fallacy

Seems like you'd realize you'll sink even more time in a series you don't particularly enjoy much if you keep going regardless.

i bet you played the ps2 version of CoM like a retard

I agree, but I'm the sort of dedicated gamer that thinks like that. Before I had significantly less time due to work, I used to play pretty much any game series from the very start. But a lot of people aren't like that, a lot just want to play the latest entry in a series.

So check it. Game comes out and it's a mix of two different flavors. Disney and JRPG brooding characters. If you're a kid into video or cartoons you are already saturated with this shit, here's everything you like in video form, no turn based nonsense just wack away with a key. Oh and advertisements were straight up masterful. Short sweet and to the point, 30 seconds long or so. Here's this hero kid he's with donald and goofy(and Donald and goofy are strapped for bear), oh no it's the dickass rival but Damn Sora blocks his attack while a bilingual J Pop star sings a catchy tune.

That campaign was a masterstroke. Maybe cynically targeting young boys who wanted to be heroes with tomboy gfs, but it was basically this sort of seduction of the senses.

Synergy in motion.

If i wanna check it out do i go for 2 or 1 to start with?

Maybe you should start with chain of memories if you like weird mysteries.

The gameplay alone interests me.

Are you implying wanting to fuck the duck makes you stupid? You poor child.

You start from 1 because this is a story-based series. Just get the All-in-One collection, I believe it's still on sale for $20. 2 expects you to have played Chain of Memories because it starts off of its ending and all the events in 2 are because of Chain of Memories, and Chain of Memories relies on everything that happened in 1.

I guess you're right user, but i'm all caught up atm. The mobile games seem to he my breaking point though.

1 its a far better game only Roxas faggots like 2

>But a lot of people aren't like that, a lot just want to play the latest entry in a series.
Oh now that's just simple user. We politely but firmly tell them to fuck off. They could also just watch a youtube video I guess. If however they can't be assed with that there really is no reasonable way to condense 13 whole games into less than an hour of info without also having all the smaller details most likely left out. By this point they CAN'T enjoy the newest game like the rest of us, the hype was built up along all these games and if you don't want to play it the precededing games, that's your fault.
