I enjoy my Rift S a lot, but the wirelessness of the Quest may make it more worthwhile to you.
I've heard conflicting reports on how well Link Cables work in comparison to standard HMDs.

Unless you felt the price isn't worth it (which is understandable), the Index is bar-none the best headset to get.

Yea. Get a cheaper oculus or vive. I prefer oculus due to the controllers. Headsets improving pretty fast. It would be a waste of money to spend a lot on one now. One of them two are your best bet for compatibility.

The only improvement I noticed was marginally better hand tracking, but the controllers were awkward to use so it didn't feel better. Picture might have been slightly clearer, but not to a significant degree. Text was still blurry. Screendoor was gone, but it wasn't a real issue to begin with on the Quest. And then sword and sorcery was outright unplayable because the game wouldn't read my inputs. Others had the same issue with no real solution. Figured a lot of games were gonna end up like that. Setup was a pain, might be fine if you have a large, permanent, dedicated space but I don't have that. The mirror from my bedroom closet door fucks with the cameras so I couldn't use it there.

Biggest thing is it's not worth putting a lot of money into VR yet. My Quest has its issues but it works and it cost a lot less.

Not him, but while Index is the overall best headset, it has poor black levels and really prominent god rays (even compared to other LCD headsets). Thus, your picture quality is lacking despite its exceptional fps and minimal SDE. Funny enough, the Reverb G2 early reviews say that it redressed both of those problems from the Index - even the god rays, despite using the Index's lens. For $600 the G2 is already shaping up to be the next overall best headset, although it will be lacking in refresh rate (90 Hz) and tracking (inside-out) compared to the Index. From the reviews though, the inside-out tracking seems to be even better than the Rift headsets for following motions outside the camera. You can see a slow motion bow shot in youtu.be/8HGxh_K5jMM?t=1563, something I can't do in my Oculus Quest (start at 26:03).

I cant remember the channel name, but there is a youtube channel where the person in VR has incredibly intimate conversations with people about what is troubling them in their lives.

Some of it is stuff they say theyve never talked about, and it's just easier to break that wall down when in VR where you aren't actually looking at a real other person.

I didn't notice much of a difference regarding FoV, not sure what the big deal is with peripheral view you probably won't notice. But I didn't use it for that long because I just wanted to get my money back and be done with it.

On that note, something to pay attention to with FoV is pixels per degree of FoV. When comparing the Index to the Quest, they have the same resolution but the Index has 20 degrees more FoV. This means a wider image, but it means fuzzier text because there's less pixels where you are currently focused. On the flip size, the pentile matrix OLED has one subpixel less than the Index's LCD screens, so the Index has less screendoor effect despite having less pixels per degree. You can see some of the latter with pic related. The Quest has the jean texture SDE, while the Rift S has a smoother image (RGB LCD) despite having a smaller resolution at the same FoV (less pixels per degree). Fuzzier image, less SDE.

Personally, SDE and black levels have always been my 2 biggest annoyances in VR. The Quest's OLED screen is perfect for black levels, but it still has that minimal SDE. The Index has almost no SDE, but it's black levels are among the worst of all the headsets. There's just no winning for me yet, but the G2 at least is a huge step forward on improving black levels with an LCD screen with even better resolution (2160x2160, up from Index/Quest's 1600x1440), meaning even sharper images (more pixels per degree).

No VRchat stories because I have one of the worst accents someone can have so I avoid voice chat like corona. Otherwise the most notable thing I've done is strap a controller to my hip and fuck virtual women lined up with a fleshlight in virt a mate. Yeah it's sad and a pain in the ass to get all set up but it's the closest I'll ever get to actual sex and couldn't recommend it more to my fellow lost causes.

Back in 2017-2018 I had a lot of fun in VRchat, but gradually all the cool people I liked to hang out with moved on and our group was filled with trannies and discord drama.
