Why didn't they just go with a normal equipment system, or one that actually references file structures and such?

haha colored blocks match match

So you don't want any creativity in your games, man?

Yes, why? Fuck trying to innovate and experiment, just soullessly copypaste instead.

that is literally the opposite of how it works

Is this a Lain game?

Idiot ten years old wouldn't be able to figure it out if it was more like actual file structures.

Because it's more fun this way, like a mini-puzzle. The only thing I disliked were the error codes.

Nier Automata did it in a neat way.

Megaman Battle Network 3 onward. It’s a map for programming abilities and buffs onto Megaman with a few rules:
>two of the same color program can’t be touching
>solid color programs have to be on the command line in some way
>Plus programs for attack, speed, charge, and extra HP must be off the command line
In some cases creating an error by violating one of the rules can be helpful and there are special codes that can compress the programs to fit more of them.

>Forget how it works
>Randomly place an hp bloc
>Battle, start losing life, moving 2 squares each time, and the blasters fails at shooting
>Wait in one corner for 10 minutes with 1 hp left until a chip with auto-atack appears because the enemy its in the middle row...

Memory leaks are a bitch, both in real life and in games.

Yeah, that.

>intentionally keep HeatBug style the entire time
Made it a little more challenging but it was worth it

The Navi Cust was the best thing about 3 (and a big part of what makes it the best game in the series).

I wish I understood how to glitch propery.

it was honestly not a bad system.
I'm not sure the compression codes were cool or interesting though.

NO FUN ALLOWED

What did you prioritize when customizing? For me, it was Charge. I figured that while Attack and Speed were nice, Styles, DoubleSouls, and Crosses all tend to do unique charge shots, and so getting faster charge shots would benefit elemental decks, Styles, and Souls.

GameFAQs has a good guide.
Yeah, me too.

I tended to use fire style in conjunction with blkbombs.

Although the meta is to be a flashman spamming faggot that stunlocks everything forever.

custom because it is objectively the best

honourable mention to mega folder

The machine gun style would actually be viable if it didn't cause flashing. It causes flashing so it's bad.

You priotize attack with that one but it's not worth it when you can just use custom instead.

What did hub do? I never installed those except for humor once

Hub.bat gives you a shitton of abilities and general boosts, but IIRC had to either be compressed or use an error code to bypass the bug from it. It's a very good navicust prog.

>Gives a number of effects, including Break Buster, Super Armor, Air Shoes, Float Shoes, Custom 1, Mega Folder 1, Shield, and Under Shirt. Causes a bug that halves MegaMan's max HP.

The problem is you can just get foldrbck. Which is immensely powerful.

It's actually funny how everything you get in Blue is just better than anything you can get in White.

>Why didn't they just go with a normal equipment system
They did, in the first game.

Why even bother posting about something you know absolutely nothing about?

>machine gun style
Guts style?

Yea I forgot that's what it's called.

I don't remember what the other weird niche styles are anymore at all. Ground and uhhh... Team? There's something else that I don't remember.

Here's a helpful visual guide I made because I do weird shit when I'm bored.

Is Bugstyle any good?

>flashman
Don't forget Plantman's Snake Pit folder.

Not particularly but it looks the coolest, without a doubt.

I typically did AquaShield cause I figured a shield would be nice for attacks I couldn't dodge, and could reflect instead. Never really got all that good at it though. After I learned of the hidden styles I went for AquaShadow cause it looked cool.

My rule with the games typically is "Which version has the water style/soul, or failing that which one is either blue or recognizable."

show the dakka addon

I just slapped in whatever fit, usually the +500 HP one though because I couldn't find the last HPmemory.
I used it all the time because it's cool.
It's probably not good though, since it takes away control sometimes.

it's randomly the best style and randomly worse than no style at all.

You get random buffs/debuffs each battle. Which makes it really inconsistent. Means you could cheese some bosses with save scumming.

I don't have the webum. Someone else probably does.

>could have made a shitty text menu and called it a day
>makes the most creative, fun and flexible customization screen ever.
GBA era capcom was peak soul, holy shit. I want to go back. ;___;

Is this Shangai?

Yes.

are /jp/ anons still working on it?

its a shame buster styles are always so bad. the only redeeming quality buster has us brakbust, which is admittedly pretty damn sweet, but chips will always be much better
