Rate Generation 8

This gen of video games is basically over. If you could rate it on a scale of 1-10 (1 being trash garbage and 10 being greatest gen ever) where would you rate it and why?

1 because fuckall games.

Solid 8/10. Better than 7th gen by a long shot. Almost as good a the 6th gen but not quite.

4/10

Everything is pay to play online now outside of PC. The PS4 had a grand total of 4 exclusives on it that I ended up liking. Just a terrible generation overall. This gen has essentially killed all desire I have to really play games anymore outside of indie titles and Souls games.

>Almost as good a the 6th gen but not quite.

It's not even "almost" as good.

This.

It is when you take into account indie games. We traded good AAA games for good indie games. It's honestly a pretty decent trade. There have been some pretty great indies this gen.

it was better than last gen jfc that shit was so bad

5/10. Better than last gen but still nothing special.

4/10, it had a few good games

6 without VR, 8 with

>indie games

4/10
Somehow even worse than last gen with the ps4 having less games than the ps3. The only saving grace was the Switch because it not only offered something new but it had games but ultimately it doesn't make the worst gen better.

pc wins evertim bby

there aren't that many great indie games as you're saying

why would anyone buy a ps5 or xbsex after gen 8?

i'll be generous with a 5/10. very medicore. gen 7 was lightyears ahead with all new game concepts, genres, jump to HD, online gaming. this gen took all the shit stuff nobody liked and multiplied it tenfold such as MTX and remasters. it's like games have become less based on passion and more about greed. in 6th/7th gen you could see there was still passion even in within publishers like EA. now it's completely gone. 8th gen is the worst gen by far.

>PS4
>1 game

>Switch
2 games

>XBone
>0 games

AAA microtransaction garbage, though some decent stuff like Hitman, Titanfall 2, and Tropical Freeze
But indie games have picked up the slack from over-commercialized garbage.
>but indie games bad
No! Modern indie games like Dusk, Subnautica and Bright Memory have just as much production value and scope as old AAA games. So, don't start.
7/10
>How dare you insult gen6?! Watching Dante shriek poopy cowabunga as I pressed X to awesome was almost as important to my childhood as watching Family Guy!
kys underage
PS2 was garbage for children

lasted so much longer yet so fewer memories

>it's an ACfag episode

I don't think it helps that I became an adult this gen being 18 when the gen started and mainly sticking to pc for the majority of the gen with a couple of exceptions that came out on ps4 and wiiu/switch. I got married last year and I have a kid on the way, so my time with vidya is limited all be it this year I did catch up with the remaining games I had to play due to covid. What I can say is that I do feel like this gen experimented more than last gens brown and gloom shooters. I still say that the last good gen was the 6th, and for good reason. But, I definitely enjoyed more games from beginning to end this gen than last gen. It's hard to deny this gen did feel like something was off, like why did it take so long to get great games. I wasn't hyped as much for games this gen and I think that has a lot to do with my age.

pretty much this. once this gen ends everyone will forget it. the biggest things people remember about this gen will be xbox/wii u bombing hard and forced agendas in video games. there's barely any good games this gen.

But the Switch is just getting started

15 year old

I think it would be more fair to rate the consoles individually.

>Ps4
1/10 I can't even think of a game that isn't a cinematic walking simulator.

>Xbox
1/10 can't think of a game that isn't a failed generic halo clone

>Switch
4/10 too many casual games, plus problems that persist on the other consoles. It's a damn shame seeing Nintendo falter to the same practices that they once scoffed at, like DLC and microtransactions and season passes.

>PC
8/10 as long as you avoid the cancerous DRM store wars. It got all the best games this gen too, without emulation. Indie scene is absolutely booming, and even if you filter out the hundreds of shovelware, you still have some great titles.

i would say 6/10

>Xbox ONE was a fucking blunder
>PS4 basically had not enough games to justify a whole new generation
>Switch is cool but shit is w too expensive and has shity third part support
>The entire industry became even shittier in multiple was.
>Every now and then a good game comes out but the amount of mediocre to bad games keeps increasing.

In all honesty this entire generation was a let down and i have no hopes it will get better an time soon, the next one looks even shittier.

Ill just stick to pc emulating stuff, pirating and getting free games. xbox live pass is a pretty good deal in my country and i saved a ton with it.

>I think that has a lot to do with my age.
It doesn't, 6th Gen was the last good gen and all the bad stuff we see today from dumbing down of gameplay to microtransactions was a product of 7th Gen.
7th and 8th Gen were fucking awful, though 7th Gen had a great start outside the PS3.

Shame what became of it

11/10 for us XCHADS
We fuckin made nintenkiddies and snoyggers go bankrupt lol

This gen basically guaranteed I'll be only playing on PC/Nintendo platforms moving forward. The Xbox and PS5 are just a waste of money overall. Even though the PS4 at least had exclusives they were still few and far between and really not worth bothering with paid online and a 400 dollar overpriced box to play them on.

>pcfags pretending indie games are great now

Attached: PC gaming.png (720x730, 495.38K)

6/10
Mostly shit but some good games like bloodborne, Nioh 2, smash ultimate, Nier automata, and DMC5.

I wonder if that 8/10 can turn into a 9/10 next gen.
Source 2 being released into the public and PC getting to a point where you can make bank without releasing a game on console as well might actually make it happen with some luck.
Or TES6 is released and Todd achieves paid modding becoming mainstream thanks to PC redditors, that could happen as well.

I just want to see the same flare we saw in the 90s and early 2000s man, truly a Silver Age for vidya and great times for media in general.

cope seethe and dilate

1/10

Worst Gen by a mile, not sure why the hate for 7th Gen at least that one had games and original titles. 8th gen's defining hits were walking simulators, blatant cash grab clones, and remasters with worse visuals than the originals.
