user, even being as autistic as all users of this mongolian knitting forum necessarily are, you must surely be aware that money isn't a socially acceptable gift in most cases and certainly not from a parent to child. Rather, birthdays of immediate family members are supposed to be opportunities for the giver to demonstrate their close relationship with the recipient by gifting items they think will be appreciated.

Having to ask says that your parents have no clue what you would want. Is that their fault for not making a greater effort to engage with your hobbies and interests, or your fault for not opening up with them more about what you enjoy?

Be appreciative that they at least tried instead of just grabbing you an amazon giftcard (even though that's what you would have preferred) and spend more meaningful time with them while you can.

they know I like video games, I've literally played video games all my life and every time I've ever asked for anything as long as I live it's almost always been video game related
