Hello literature / writing fans of Zig Forums. Is Abby a good or bad character?
good
people who say bad have a borrowed brain
Good
A lot of the story and character writing is pretty basic from a literary perspective. But basics are basics for a reason, they're a reliable way to write a compelling story.
Anybody who spergs on the story is low iq/incel/retard/faggot/have sex, take your pick.
fpbp
Bait.
Yes.
Incredibly unrealistic amount of upper body strength.
She's a cute character.
I dont watch Sony movies but he looks like an alright character.
Hi kneel
i don't know what you guys are talking about Abby is fucking hot i want to dp her muscly vagoo
Are you sure that's not a guy,. Naughty Dog?
Hmmmmm
None of the characters are badly written, the structure of the game itself is just fundamentally flawed. If you switched around the sequence of events, you could bring it from a 3/10 to a 6/10.
lmao no
its baby first "gritty" fanfic tier
Hello, I am a literature fan on Zig Forums. I can't answer your question because I don't play bad games. That is all.
Is her being an androgynous female character relevant to the plot as a whole?
Does making her character a regular buffed up guy ruin the story?
Good character but terribly executed.
Rather than making Abby competent and standout on her own merits they dumbed down the other characters to make her goals more achievable.
Joel suddenly losing his brain and ignoring all the red flags about her just so she can finally kill him was a retarded decision.
>What's this random chick doing out here by herself? Better ignore that!
>Wait she mentioned her group of nearly a dozen people she's traveling with? Better ignore that!
>Oh, and they're all heavily armed and secured a previously abandoned lodge right next to our settlement? Better ignore that!
Downgrading the rest of the cast only hurts Abby more because it feels like she was gifted a win.
Bad.
For someone who cares so much about her friends, she murders someone who just saved her life...no, hold on, tortures and murders them and shows zero remorse afterwards.
The writing of her character cannot make the audience sympathize with her off of that fact alone. They were very manipulative too.
Joel's decisions feel like mistakes someone makes when they've only been in the apocalypse a year.
Worse, Abby's decisions feel like: "I am going to murder the man who killed my father. He saved my life? Should I think about what I'm doing? Perhaps I'm misinformed and should stick around to make my decision. They've just invited me to town with them, so I'm in no real hurry....nah, nevermind, torture and kill him. Never think about it again."
Joel grew soft after living a cushy life in Jackson for the past five years. In fact him acting that way reminds me of my Grandpa who chilled the fuck out in his golden years.
>shows zero remorse afterwards
:|
Pretty bad, if shes retarded then the character needs to reflect that in order to justify her retarded decisions
She really doesn't. Also, constantly letting people screaming "I'll kill you!" live seems a bit bold of her.
Abby's entire three day section is about her feeling like complete shit after what she did to Joel. Play the damn game before talking about it
For people who think she's written well, show me one scene where that is the case.
Bad. This is a poorly written video game.
Pathetic, it's in the same level as politicians who try to be likeable by petting a dog in their propaganda videos.
Ellie is even worse, at least roidmonster is consistent.
Abby's decision to kill Joel was fine, though, because it showed how much she couldn't let go of a grudge.
They even comment on this later on when she keeps asking for validation that she did the right thing in killing Joel.
She's clearly regretting her decision and is probably considering that moment where Joel saved her. It's why she keeps having dreams about her father: killing Joel only brought more regrets, not closure.
The characters acting retarded though is still a big problem.
It's not consistent with the rest of the writing though.
Joel is still very protective of Ellie and constantly reminds her of doing basic stuff like masks on, etc.
Jessie further pushes this idea that people take things very seriously by warning other patrols that if there's too many clickers/runners they shouldn't bother engaging.
The whole atmosphere is "there's no time to relax". So why Joel and Tommy decide to risk their lives for some literal who in the middle of a frenzy is beyond me, nor do they even bother to question why she's there in the first place.
And that's just one instance of characters acting dumb for plot convenience. The whole scene with Jordan not allowing his comrade to shoot Ellie but then decides to slowly choke out Dina after she shot said comrade was one of the dumbest things I've seen in a while.
I think the fact that you are asking for a scene instead of a level speaks volumes.
This. Just the other day a group of heavily armed men moved into an abandoned building near town. They invited me over and I, a man who has lived in a society, saw no problem with this
Play the game. The never says she gives a fuck about anything she did regarding Joel. If you think she does, she was talking about her role in the ongoing Seraphite conflict.
This actually makes sense. Even a pencil pusher in the real world would know what Joel did was super dumb
I have played it. At the start of her story, her and all of her friends are barely speaking to each other because of how they all feel about what happened in Jackson. The first thing we see of Abby on Seattle day 1 is her waking up from a nightmare, and she has nightmares for her entire three days because killing Joel didn't make her feel better and she feels guilty about it. Then she has a nightmare about Yara and Lev as well and tells them that she came back for herself because she felt guilty and needed to lighten her mental load. The only time she has a good dream is after saving Yara because she is finally starting to feel less guilty and it's what causes her to have such a change of heart. No, she doesn't explicitly say "I feel bad about killing Joel" but it's painfully obvious to anyone with more than two braincells that she does feel shitty about it
But you just said it yourself, she didn't feel better after killing him. That's not remorse, remorse makes you feel even worse.
