Not a single interesting MMO is in the works

>not a single interesting MMO is in the works

The MMORPG genre is dead. And no, New World is not interesting, it is dead before arrival.

Nothing new coming out but endless amounts of mobile / crossplay "MMOs" and infinity projects like star citizen and new world

Why even bother living

Final Fantasy XIV is one of, and maybe even the best MMO ever made. And you could even argue it's competition for the best final fantasy game released.

>What is pantheon rise of the fallen

tibia

The only MMO aspects of the game are the raids and all the pedophiles / furries congregating at the hubs.

Made the mistake of trying it and now some russian fucker won't stop trying to reset my password.

People who follow MMORPGs are the gaming equivalent of battered wife stockholm syndrome captives.
You are effectively selling hundreds of hours of your life to play games that could be completely scrubbed from existence at the drop of a hat, or be turned into a completely different experience because of a single update.
Holy shit, just play singleplayer games. At least a singleplayer game released 10 years ago will be the exact same if you play it again today.

>It's not an MMO because uhhhhh
It's an MMO retard

It is not. It is a rushed copy of WoW and filled with lowlife ERPers. There is no challenge in PvE or proper PvP. It is everything that is wrong with modern MMO genre, a soulless cash-grab designed after WoW.

NO1 WANTS TO PLAY WITH WEEBS
YOU'RE ALL FUCKING GAY AND TRASH AT VIDEO GAMES

But what if you want to play with over people? Most games don't even have dedicated or private servers.

> t. WoW fanboy yiffing it up in Goldshire.

A cheap indie MMORPG that is already outdated and doomed to fail due to low budget even if the devs themselves were talented and passionate.

Didn't claim otherwise. It's an MMO like habbo hotel is an MMO. Does not make it a good MMO.

Actually, if I had to choose, I would rather waste 500 hours in habbo.

>Game is bad because progress is pointless!
Who fucking cares. Games are simple little things. All pointless and nobody really cares about how fast or good you are outside of it. Long as you're having fun it doesn't matter what you're doing.

WoW fanboy? Excuse me? I would never play WoW anymore, it had its time 15 years ago. The problem with the genre are the greedy devs copying WoW instead of trying to come up with something new and interesting. FF14 is just a WoW copy number 3424239432432 that is targeted to milk FF fans (although one could ask who the hell would be a fan of Square-Enix post-FFIX?).

And that is the problem with you zoomers that want a new good MMO. Unless it's from a AAA+ company you don't want to touch it.

>People who follow MMORPGs are the gaming equivalent of battered wife stockholm syndrome captives.

Yeah this is pretty accurate.

lol

I appreciate the concept (getting rid of the game playing itself for you via all the modern MMORPG QoL features) but I'd want some quality and innovation on top of that.

Tried out Elder Scrolls Online and hated it right away. It's like they took everything that made their games unique, threw it in the garbage, and replaced it with the same MMO shit you see everywhere. Then they topped it off with one of the most offensive cash shops I've ever seen.

Final fantasy is OK if you are in it for the story I guess. If you are looking for an MMO, you are wasting your time.

I can say this from a personal experience

I've played it so I believe you. Although I didn't really appreciate the story myself, it was all childish and irritating.

Since when have a AAA+ company made a quality MMO title and what makes you think quality is a synonym for money?

Yeah I didn't read a line of that shit. Could not have cared less about it.

The last MMORPG I enjoyed for years was GW2 but that was already half a decade ago. Since then, there has been nothing.

Don't you think P:RotF is just same old crap? Chronicles of Elyria had a promising concept but it turned out to be an indie kickstarter scam, so nothing came out of that either.

will camelot unchained come out this decade

that game is going to be so fucking dated

I like how they thought level scaling was such a good idea in oblivion that they also put it into their mmorpg. Literally nothing fucking matters!

I enjoyed the combat. Being able to switch classes pretty much whenever you want, being able to do all the life skills on a single character was fucking great. Too bad it was wasted on a story focused game with nothing to do at the end game but the raids.

And Jesus Christ that story grind to get to the latest expansion, just to discover that there is fuck all to do has to be the biggest disappointment and biggest waste of time I have ever experienced.

playing EQ1 TLP servers, while waiting for pantheon.

GW2 is probably my favorite MMO. Too bad that it has stagnated so bad. Can't even force myself to log in anymore. Might go back if they ever get that new expansion out.

>GW2
>Old
Nah, it's legit shit.

It's really turning into one of those eternally stuck in developmentā„¢ projects.

All the original backers will be dead / infirm and nobody else will give a shit when it eventually gets shat out.

Next expansion is set in Cantha so get ready for massive lore rape

Came here to post something like this ironically, saw this and got upset.
There are hordes of "people" who genuinely buy this self-absorbed narrative.

Tell me about those dream MMO features you'd like user.

I keep a journal with ideas, maybe I'll fund a MMO in 10 years.

MMOs are a subscription-based genre.

Subscriptions are dead, replaced by MTX and "Battle Pass" bullshit.

As such, why would any publisher throw the hundreds of millions of dollars and years of development necessary to build an MMO when they can just make an action game with MMO-style grinding, funded by MTX and Battle Passes, for a fraction of the cost and in a fraction of the time?

Reminder that every mmo that goes with realistic graphics is dead on arrival

That's pretty cringe bro and some dedicated autism. Then again XIV makes Zig Forums seethe for some reason.

Black Desert is still kicking around

I can confirm. I hate modern WoW, every time I have this itch to play a MMO I know week later I'll hate it, my guild/team will disband month later as everyone gets bored and leaves with only people left in this game being insufferable min/maxing addicts. I still resub, and I still unsub week later. It's an addiction, most likely to social interactions those games give you since there's nothing else like it except for maybe VR.

I love the variety and depth of skills in osrs. Any game where you can completely eschew combat and be a pure skiller is a winner in my book. Try playing wow and only fishing and tailoring or whatever and see how far that gets you. You can't even cut down trees in wow.

People are more than willing to pay sub-fees for a good MMORPG, that is not the problem. Creating a MMORPG is just too risky.
