It is super linear, which in itself wouldn't be a bad thing, but the game doesn't even try to hide it like the others did.
Also peach's castle just being a hub is lame.

All the attacks being items instead of MP/FP/BP based is a predecessor to the Sticker problem too.
It's a shame, because it had a lot of good ideas, like the Shroobs, and the Cobalt Star twist.

experience points and leveling up are shit game mechanics and their absence is not a contributing factor to this game's flaws

Even if games can be done without those mechanics, adding them in this would at least make battles worth seeking instead of avoiding non stop.
Hell if the HP upgrades were ONLY due to purchases and cost like 20k coins each, that could be a replacement for exp.
As it is there is no reason to fight since the overworld gives you infinite confetti and coins respawn when leaving the area.

I have to say I'm sorry to PM fans. Nobody else has been as outwardly shit on outside of you. Not even Pokemon. At least F-Zero was never mentioned, but went out on a very high note. Paper Mario is being made an actual laughingstock and public embarrassment. The creators have proven they don't care about the series at this point and the fans have watched it unfold over 2 generations of games.
