It was meh, looks great but dated and overdone Naughty Dog tropes (get to new area, kill enemies, solve puzzle or collect hidden junk, repeat cycle). I don't have a GOTY yet, too many disappointments.

I thought it was really good. I wish you had an option to kill abby and maybe the ability to carry more ammo. Pretty great game though, easily an 8/10

I just find Naughty Dogs games narratively and stylistically a bit bland. Not bad or anything, but their stories and visuals just feel too cliché for me. I actually liked Last of Us 2s over the top action movie grit but FF7RE just had more of a hook for me. Might be because I mever played the original but the world, the characters and the direction in general just drew me in more. The elaborated Moulin Rouge inspired Musical Sequence in the Wall Market, Avalanche celebrating in Tifa's Pub, the fight with Rufus Shinra, the super baroque action setpieces near the end... I felt like watching Star Wars for the first time. Last of Us 2 in comparison was just that shlocky action game about two grim meatheads crawling through the dirt and killing generic soldiers, cultists and Zombies because of their daddy issues. All very fun and well presented, but also a bit dumb for how seriously it took itself.

The only game I can see replacing FF7 as my GOTY right now is Cyberpunk.

to each their own man but i can't relate to this at all and I never played the original either. It all felt very japanese, hollow, and rushed to me.

Considering it's a 25 hour game and the level of polish it had from start to finish was really impressive.
The story was pretty good. I can recognize you're playing a game the developer tells you to play, doesn't matter if you 100% disagree with it, even though the trend for the past 15 years has been your choices matter.
One annoying thing is the same fucking assassination animation over and over and over and over and over.
They really needed to make several different animations to put more variety in it
