Sonic colours is turning 10 this year

Can someone tell me why 2D sections in the 3D games suck so much dick?
its just a bunch of blocks.
for a long time sega team was recruiting talent who could make "a 3D action adventure platformer." After awhile they must have forgotten how to make a 2D game.
The game itself is fine, but Ken Pontac's writing is fucking terrible. Just skip all the cut scenes and save yourself the trouble.
Also fuck wisps. They never should have shown up again.
Ranks somewhere between a 7.5-8.5
2D sections suck ass and I can't remember how much of it is in the game but almost every area was memorable with great 3D level design. Some of the wisps were also gimicky
It's certainly the best of the 3D Sonic games.
It's a good game. No masterpiece, but really good. But more of a good game than a good Sonic game.
Really needs an HD re-release. Tried playing it recently on an modern TV and the graphics are distractedly pixelated. And I don't have a go enough pc to emulate it. Gameplay still holds up, which is good.
No. It's Kishimoto's best game but that's not saying much. Despite being a 3D game on paper, the actual 3D levels were split in half during development (Tropical Resort acts 1 and 2 were originally one long stage for instance) and blocky gimmicky 2D levels were sprinkled in for padding. People shit on the Werehog but give Colours' padding a pass even though it's just as blatant and bad. It also introduced many of the major problems that continue to plague 3D Sonic (wisps, ironic wacky self aware humour, side characters and humans being pushed to the side). I think that if they didn't split the 3D levels and didn't include the 2D padding like they originally intended it could have been decent.
Wii version is one of the best boost style Sonic games in my opinion. The DS version is more like an over-glorified expansion pack of Sonic Rush, which isn't a bad thing, but if you're expecting something fundamentally different, it will put you off.
Why is it so good:
1. The only new characters introduced are the Wisps. They're not fucking annoying like the other abundance of Sonic characters introduced throughout the past twenty years that look like they could pass off as shitty deviantART OCs. They also provide very unique power-ups.
2. Loads of side and bonus stages, and unlike Unleashed these aren't janky as fuck either.
3. Some of the best music tracks in any Sonic game, period. Star Carnival and Aquarium Park in particular are certified bops.
4. The first modern Sonic game to let you transform into Super Sonic during any stage and not just during the fucking final boss fight - this is only true for the Wii version. DS version unfortunately only lets you use Super Sonic during the final boss.
5. This is the first Boost style Sonic game with no game-ruining gimmicks. Unleashed had awful Werehog stages, Generations had Classic Sonic stages of questionable quality, Lost World tried its very hardest to rip off Super Mario Galaxy and Forces had even worse Classic Sonic stages alongside forcing you to play as a deviantART OC.
Yes
They misspelled "colors."
This. Wii Colors is honestly average looking back. The levels are too broken up, the wisps are way too gimmicky, it's too easy and the levels really aren't all that memorable. I haven't played Unleashed in 10 years but I remember almost every stage whereas I only really remember about 3 or 4 from Colors. The DS one is a blast though, It's basically Rush 3 but without that kind of music. It feels a bit more dumbed down to accomodate for the wisps but it's much more fun to play since I don't have to use a wii mote and nunchuck and unlike the Wii version, it actually has a proper Sonic like final boss.
Every game has a different set of newbie level designers
wisps were pretty hit and miss but it's a good game overall if you can look past the awful script
eggman's pa announcements were great though
This.
Fucking retard.
>People shit on the Werehog but give Colours' padding a pass even though it's just as blatant and bad.
The one thing Colors does right is it's padding, it's all just more levels of the game you're already playing rather than a completely different game. People shit on the Werehog because it's like buying a Mario game where 60% of the game is spent playing Cooking Mama
To bad the actual gameplay and level design is boring and uninspired.
>10 years
I want to go back in time.
Solid game, honestly the best Sonic game since Sega went third party, gets too much hate for shit Lost World and Forces fucked up on, but at the same time merely being solid shows why Sonic is such a shovelware-tier franchise if something like Colors is considered a high mark, when if it was any good Colors would be considered average.
DS good
Wii bad
>it's all just more levels of the game you're already playing
Lmao
Its because its cool to hate on sonic
It's cool to hate Sonic because Sonic is shit 90% of the time. Sonic fanboys can plug their ears all they want but it doesn't change the truth.
