Which version of Reach do you prefer - the book or the game?
Which version of Reach do you prefer - the book or the game?
The book - before 343 fucked with it.
Reading is for fucking nerds
The ORIGINAL fall of reach book. Pretty sure there was a new version that sucked ass.
Btw Ghosts of Onyx was alright too.
What happened with Bungie and game canon vs book canon from 2005-2009, it seemed like Bungie became more accepting about them then with only shitheads like Marcus Lehto bitching about them?
The revision literally just changed inconsistencies in the book's own timeline that were forgotten in editing and the fact that Elites hadn't been encountered until the Fall of Reach, which was a retarded decision in the first place.
Ain't the book just chief childhood with a bit of pillar of autumn at the end?
No, it also has a lot of boring space battles and describes the fall of reach in detail. Despite 343i cope the game version and the book version are just functionally incompatible.
Having recently re-read the book, I like it a lot less than I did when I was a kid. It is very universe shrinking and makes it so very little actually happens in 30+ years of warfare. According to Nylund, the UNSC only had 3 victories in all 30 years of war, the Covenant basically never ever went to the ground and the only Covenant forces humanity had ever fought for 30+ YEARS was Grunts and Jackals, that was it. They didn't even know what the Covenant hiearchy was.
It also attempted to reconcile the game, but in doing so created the massive contrivance that half of Reach was completely unaware of the Covenant until they started glassing shit. The implication that half the planet was jammed and nobody had the thought to have an aircraft fly out and relay messages is beyond absurd.
Also makes it so that Keyes when Reach is literally fucked and they're revving up the engines to leave whilst they're being chased by the Covenant armada from CE decides to stop and take a quick sippy break and fly down to Reach for several hours.
I don't know why lore fags try so hard to treat Halo Reach as canon when it doesn't fit with any of the games, lore, or even itself. It's clear as day that they have mental illness when those zoomer fucks try to piece that shit together.
I think that the Halsey storyline and the squad of Spartans delivering Cortana with the Halo data to the Pillar of Autumn as a last minute sacrificial escape is a great storyline and a lot better than the boring ass space battle and random museum rock storyline from the book, but Reach's story in general is pretty crap and boring otherwise.
Also Chief not being the last spartan is gay and makes no sense.
That shitty added storyline broke canon on several levels.
I know that you fucking retard, that's why I said the stories were incompatible. My point was that the Halsey storyline and delivering Cortana to the Autumn is a BETTER storyline than the equivalent Sigma Octanus and Circumfrence sequence in the book, and if the rest of the game was written better or had likeable characters it would have been a very kino plot element.
The only good part of that book is the Spartan childhood sequence. You can basically just read up until they blow up the first Covenant ship and save yourself the trouble, then just play the games. Rest of the book is trash.
It was better when it was a BLIND jump and Chief getting astronomical symbols from a Covenant vessel.
Do you remember that book at all? Cortana lies to Captain Keyes and makes the Cole Protocol jump to specific coordinates and not random at all. It's the exact same shit as the game version except in this one it's data pulled from an artefact under Reach itself and not a random rock in a human museum on another colony.
I remember the Halo 2 manual from the CE-3 teams version of how the POA got to Halo, not the shitty novel, or shitty Reach game's version.
bump
And why in your mind is that better?
Halsey's Journal is unironically a better lore background than the original novel.
Because it sounds less retarded.
Why?
So the "package" in the game isn't just Cortana, but also the co-ordinates to Halo?
It sound's like Halo, zoomer.
>The difference between "John 117 collected it from a Covenant ship" vs "John 117 intercepted it from a Covenant mission" or "Cortana discovered it in a Forerunner ruin" are the difference between what sounds like Halo and what doesn't
You literally have no idea what you're talking about do you
I cant play a fucking book retard
Fall of Reach and Halo Reach are shit and CE-3 are better, eat shit, lorefag, zoomer.
Game is the only thing that matters "extended universe" aka fanfiction doesn't matter
In the context of the game Reach alone, yes. It doesn't work at all with the book plot so Halsey's Journal tries to smooth it over by saying that Cortana was split in half.
I've been waiting for 3 to come out before I play the Halo campaigns.
Is reach best played first or last?
Fuck you space battles were great.
