But games shouldn’t be this broken with a core feature that takes advantage of many other individually somewhat-broken mechanics. Most of those issues are fixed by unofficial community patches and mods, or their usage comes with specific drawbacks regarding game stability and are warned against using. Except the Alchemy Exploit. Fixing it would require a massive overhaul to how the game decided every thing that happens.

It’s also the easiest skill to power level at the start of the game. This is because you can choose when and how to level it. Other crafting skills (armorers for repairs, enchant) can’t be used thousands of times at will. So you pick a character with the lowest possible alchemy rating and make it a minor skill. It also means that you can basically set up 8 level-ups in a row.

It takes advantage infinite restocking merchants. Again, on the surface, these feature is great. Find a guy that always sells throwing knives for your marksman? You can always restock before heading out!

Most merchants will always carry certain items that will always restock. Let’s say you find one who sells 10 Scrib Jelly. You buy it, sell it back, he now has 20 permanently. So you find merchants that restock these necessary Alchemy items (conveniently gathered in Temples, Mages Guild or Telvanni shops) and make potions infinitely. You just sell potions back, get more supplies, and go on until you max the skill out.

That’s not a big deal though, right? You’re just being efficient about saving button presses by making this guy have 2000 Scrib Jelly to pick up in one bulk order instead of original 10 and can go make all your potions in one giant batch.

Huh?

But this is where the fundamentals of the game become broken. Alchemy potions strength is based on a simple formula, with your skill in Alchemy, your Intelligence, and your Luck being important factors. Well not so much Luck. So you can use spells, enchants or potions to boost your Intelligence and make stronger potions. Unlike other titles, it doesn’t limit potion consumption. So you can make and take more fortify intelligence potions, boosting it further. Eventually you’ll start to make super potions. Fortify Willpower to make spellcasting a joke. Feather to carry everything and make weight pointless. Levitation. Restore Health / Magicka / Fatigue. It eventually makes it so unless the enemy can hit you and do more damage than your total health in one hit, you will not die.

Its also a source of easy cash. Just sell off a potion to Scamp in Caldera for max value.

Now, remember that Master Trainer exploit? Follow the Dark Brotherhood chain to Mournhold and get a boost skill spell. Make your own version with your desired skill. Go to trainers to get +5/5/5 (5/5/1 of levelling Luck) in attributes from skills outside of your Major and Minors until the levels gained from Alchemy run out. Max out endurance first to make the most of your health gain per level (should put you to 80/90 endurance).

So, with one skill and about an hour or two of time, here’s how the game looks:

1) You cannot die. Potions can end but they have ridiculous durations (200- plus health/fatigue/magical regen for 6000-plus seconds) and can easily be reapplied.

2) Money is inconsequential. It already kind of is in Morrowind, but you’ve ruined the incentive to loot.

3) Gear doesn’t matter now, or at least has very little impact.

4) You’re overpowered for the content. You can make any spell with numerous effects and never worry about spending all your magicka and having it fail. You’re gaining or close to gaining +10 max health per level, pushing further away from OHKO risks.

bruh calm down with the stimulants

5) The gameplay in Morrowind is boring without the challenge. The combat is already clunky at the best of times and janky dice rolls decide everything unless you boost or train. The graphics were great for its time but aren’t much to look at today. The story is fantastic but you’ll feel like you’re just walking across the world with little fast-travel options and very poor directions if you’re not using a guide.

And you can do all of this at the start of the game. You just turned an immersive sandbox role playing game into a walking simulator where you’re a god before the story tells you that. The only thing you’re playing against is the inevitable glitch, bug, or game crash that Bethesda is known for. Or the dumb NPCs in one of the many escort quests.

Just don’t ever boost skills that affect movement. High speed results in fall damage from momentum when you walk into something. Ironically, Swift Swim doesn’t have these issues but can crash the game like high speed can. Maybe the water sets fall damage to zero regardless of momentum.

Also Strength is tied to the formula for determining weapon durability loss. Higher STR = more damage, both to foes and your weapons. Just maxing it out normally can reduce their effectiveness but boosting can result in weapons dealing moderately more damage but breaking in less (sometimes one) swing, negating any gains.

But, let’s end on a silly note. There’s one more thing that works but really doesn’t work. And it’s a real doozy.

Cure paralyze on self spells. You can’t do any actions when paralyzed, like casting a spell. You can’t use enchanted items with the skill, change gear or cast spells, there’s no reason to enchant it to cast on a target or use a spell to cast on target, and potions do not require you knowing it to be effective. It’s useless. But it works?

>The story is fantastic
Huh?

Try a lobotomy.
Can't hurt.

I meant things that worked being horribly broken.

Like Alchemy which, on the surface is great and works, but potions are horribly broken and unlimited.

Or that the game has an amazing memory for where items were left behind, dead bodies (for three days in game), but it can literally crash itself trying to remember which doors are open. So shut the damn door when you leave!

Or slowfall being almost exclusive in that its effects are not affected by magnitude of it, with 0 points allowing you to fall at normal speeds and take no damage.

Or lockpicks being unnecessary because of Alteration magic.

Or chameleon making sneak obsolete.

Or Telekinesis being overpowered.

Propylon chambers can teleport you around (yay!) but require heavy weighted stones to operate. (Boo!)

Unarmored being useless because you must wear one piece of armor for it to be calculated. It’s underpowered unless you combine with fortify skill to boost it up to a comparable level with Daedric

And the trainers in the game can be used infinitely, but that you can also train the trainers. Just fortify any skill on target +100 and they become a master trainer for its duration.

And don’t get me started in the insanity that is the Goldbrand / Eltonbrand acquisition.

morrowind code patch and mge for more than just 4:3 resolutions

DELETE THIS.
Every fucking word.
REEEEEEEEEE

Anyone here played Daggerfall? What's it like?

Kill yourself.

FYI, this guy is a confirmed schizo and pedophile.
Try not to engage with him.

How was it confirmed?

He posted a pedobait image in a previous thread, so I overstated "confirmed."
Calling him out on it has caused him to fuck off before, so I thought I'd try it again.
His schizo status will be pretty easy to validate for yourself if he continues to post.

600 hours on skyrim here
and 200 on oblivion+morrowind
it has a bunch to do but it felt like the world was way to big with every city being pretty much the same. dungeons are randomly generated labyrinths with sometime impossible to reach areas, most quests are random as well. i got bored around 5 hours in

dial8

it smell like bitch in here

Some very interesting features but 80% of the game is repetitive dungeon crawling. I actually like Arena better

A significant portion of those points would be listed as positives by the community.

It's a sandbox. Figuring out how to use the tools it gives you to break the shit out of the world is half the fun. Most modern "sandboxes" have a thimble's worth of the complexity so you're stuck playing in a railroaded, theme-park experience with the edges all sanded off to make it accessible

I never had too much trouble with the Dark Brotherhood assassins. They're scaled to your level, so that level 1 assassin that attacks you shouldn't be an issue, and you stop their spawns permanently when you visit Mournhold the first time. However, their higher level spawns will kick your ass, so it's just a matter of rushing to Ebonheart / Mournhold as early as possible.

Buuuut then they drop the 2nd best light armor in the game, which is objectively better than most medium and heavy armor....making medium armor 100% useless, and light armor the best armor skill for 90% of the game. Balance.

This is a double-edged sword: If you know what you're doing you can kill that DB mofo pretty easily and take his armor. Then you have one of the best light armors(full set!) that you can use or sell. Personally I just get the delayed brotherhood attack mod but without it the game is too hard for newcomers or too easy for us who don't have a life.

It’s not as bad as Daggerfall, where you spawn in an area with enemies you are incapable of killing (skill-wise) and are supposed to run from them. Of course all I did was run into them, die, restart, die... learning as a child was difficult lol.

>the recent morrowind threads gave me the itch to play this
why? The game sucks.
>again
I see. Nostalgia is brain rot. You will be disappointed.

Why are morrowindfags incapable of dealing with criticism?

Did you copy this from somewhere? If you didn't, you should start reviewing games on YouTube or at least a blog. You have real talent and it goes to waste here.
Really good use of spoilers, a rarity on this board. I wish I could do more to support effortposts like this.
