Dishonored 2

Now that the dust has settled, why did this flop so hard compared to the first game?

Denuvo fucking decimated the performance on release. Not sure how it is now.

Unironically politics/marketing.
Just finished it yesterday as Corvo and it was pretty damn good, but I had no desire to play it on release becuase of all the shit they have been spewing and I had tons of other games I had to play.

denuvo and bad performance. best game in the serious though

Retconning to woke garbage and shitty marketing

dont like playing as women

simple as

So don't?

When looked at in a vacuum, the game is fine. I started out as Emily because I didn't even know of all the Anita bullshit going on when I first purchased the game. But developers HAD to open their big dumbass collective mouth about it. And Billie Lurk is worse than cancer, got so fucking sick of this cunt surviving my choice of shanking her from behind. Bitch deserved death. Death of the Outsider is the REAL shit game

Developers market immersive sims like shit nowadays it seems and they fly under everyone's radar, especially the amazing ones like Prey and Mankind Divided

would have been so much better if your choices actually mattered in this series. Did anyone NOT kill that negress by the end of D2? The fact that the developers kept canonizing pacifist run throughs pissed me off something fierce.

I didnt, and now it flopped

I ignored Prey completely when it first came out, thinking it some mindless shooter, I didn't even learn what kind of game it was until months later when i heard someone talk about it.

you're an idiot if u think "politics" had anything to do with the poor reception of the game

You know you can just play as a guy right? Or are you actually just that far down the retard hole?

Meanwhile fucking Void Bastards gets marketed as an immersive sim and everyone treats it like the second coming of Bioshock

The stealth element in this franchise is just tiresome.

haha ofcourse I knew bro hahahaha

I can only speak for myself, it was a massive reason.
A lot of the woke garbage goes right against any world building, usually a stong point of arkane games.

>Anita bullshit
Anita bullshit? Haven't noticed anything so far. Is it just in the DLC?

I thought the girl was black?

this is why first person games don't work with stealth all too well. the lean mechanic is an arduous chore, and it's too easy to run up to a guard before you realize it and get spotted.

Performance was shit on console but that's usual. Performance was extra shit on pc. Unplayable for many at release.
Terrible marketing campaign. Peak of Anita attention grabbing.
Retconning a few things from the previous game. Ruins some of the mystery.
Rehashing the first game DLC for the plot, which aside from being uninspired, retroactively ruins one of the best DLC ever released.
Art direction is alright but doesn't reach the god tier Antonov level of the first game.
Promotional content focused on Emily when playing as Corvo is plain better both gameplay and story wise, and most people won't play twice especially if the first playthrough was disappointing.

>poor performance
>one good mission, the rest are crap
>reused villain and characters
>reused enemies
>nothing new lorewise other than the shit it ruins from the first game

No, I'm just talking about what the developers were peddling, in interviews and such. They claimed a bunch of woke nonsense after the fact.

Denuvo and really bad performance on PC. It’s not bad now but it’s way too late. The game has been swept under the rug and people won’t give it a shot.

>Thief 1+2 would like to know your location.

lmoa

That was the third game (an even bigger flop)

Attached: disdotu.jpg (616x353, 69.21K)

Story was underwhelming as all fuck and the delivery of the lines was as lackluster as can be. Neither Corvo or Emily sound like how they should given their situations, histories, or stakes. It would have been better if they were voiceless, but that wouldn't make sense for Emily.

I thought that was just some half baked dlc

What did user mean by this?

Billy Lurk is so over emphasised as a character, from what should be an exile/death fate in the 1st DLC, to then being the help in 2 (who again can die or just fade away), then the protagonist in DOTO. Like just fuck off women. All the while while appearing in the novels and comics too.

And they changed her design so many times, as well as the voice actress to get a worse one but with more star power.

Standalone expansion, slightly cheaper than 2.
The weird intersection of sequel, spinoff, and dlc.

They tried to make you care for this cunt so much for no reason.
Meanwhile our guy Sokolov didn't get enough screentime.

It has good levels but it takes a huge dump on Dishonored and basically kills any chance for a sequel.

right on the first part, wrong on the second. According to the loremasters, there have been multiple "outsiders." Basically, multiple people can mantle that god status and be a master of the void

Joplin and Sokolov were straight up the best characters in the first game. Lord Pendleton and his servant were alright too.

Black women

>Sokolov didn't get enough screentime.
Good, Piero was the true genius.

fucking this, I cared more about thomas than her and he never even took off his mask

meant for

Correct if I'm remembering this wrong but there were two main devs iirc. One of them was a sjw faggotlord and the other one was actually good as well as being the tard wrangler for the other one to keep them in line. I think he wasn't onboard for the second game but the faglord was and he went full woke and pozzed the shit out of it in the other's absence.

Is is even explained what happened to him?
Why didn't he show up in 2?

This shit bothers me to no end since I liked to shank my targets in the first one. Even worse when they even chickened out of some of the more brutal pacifist paths.
>Oh shit, leaving the Boyle lady with a rapist to be defiled until the end of her days is a bit messed up
>Haha, nevermind, she just charmed her way out of that one without a hitch!
Fuck you, leave that shit ambiguous or don't mention it, you hacks.

Attached: 1592476225869.jpg (316x348, 17.48K)

He died.

>she just charmed her way out of that one without a hitch!
The fuck. Is this in the game somewhere or from one of the books?

You're thinking of Harvey "I'm responsible for Invisible War" Smith and Raphael Colantonio. The former went on to direct Dishonored 2 on his own while the latter did the DLC for the first game and then Prey.

How though?
He was an important character, so just killing him offscreen seem strange.

>According to the loremasters, there have been multiple "outsiders." Basically, multiple people can mantle that god status and be a master of the void
Thanks for reminding me that Dishonored 2 shat on the Outsider too, by making him some nobody with powers instead of the ambiguous being from another world the first game portrayed him as.

Because Bethesda hasn’t put any effort into marketing Arkane games besides the first Dishonored even though Arkane’s games are way better than the garbage that BGS puts out.

Finding the Overseer as a zombie when you get to find your weapons back was great though, and it was canon.

And they retconned her into being responsible for the Duke’s brothers death. Like seriously, small world syndrome writing. (But in reality the 2nd game shouldn’t have been a straight sequel with the same characters and setting).

And the retcon of the Outsider, and Dehilia.

But uh, why does Thomas wear the mask?

Playing this only now and bloody hell, antialiasing options are pure garbage. FXAA has shimmering out of ass, TXAA at 1080p is pure blur but without shimmering.
Fortunately with 2070S I can use DSR to output 4K with dynamic resolution with TXAA as it's necessary to avoid shimmering, and now it looks pretty fucking great, but it needs few hops.

nobody cared who he was before he put it on

Boyle's incel fan was one of the best moment of the game. Also fully deserved. Our boy did nothing wrong.

It's great, but that was in the first game.

I guess that might explain why Prey is so much better than D2.

>It's great, but that was in the first game.
Boyle was in the first game too.

If someone pulled it off would he die?

Supposedly died of natural causes a few months after Dishonored 1.

The devs went out of their way to say she would've escaped his clutches easily iirc, and it is definitely mentioned in one of the books.

so fucking good

I didn't buy the sequel because I finished the first game unsatisfied by its gameplay, plot and dialogue even though it started strong. Couldn't imagine the sequel would be any better.

What political stuff held back the sequel?

You mean like Daud?
Holy shit the series was run into the ground

It was a lab accident actually.

I'm playing it right now and it's just a chore. This is the main gameplay loop:
>Clear entire room of enemies
>Realize the three or so other ways I could've dealt with the situation and think "that's pretty cool I guess"
>Repeat
Trivially easy, braindead enemies, and I'm playing with all the customizaton tuned to the highest possible difficulty.

The voice acting is also atrocious. Emily and the negress sound completely uninterested.

I know, but user was posting about how the second game retcons what happens in the first during the Boyle mission.
Lady Boyle neither gets locked into a rape dungeon nor does she end up liking her kidnapper.

The pozzed writers probably disliked him for peeping into the bathtub, the absolute faggots.

Simps are easily fooled like that.

There was no "reason", other than Denuvo which most normies don't care about the came got fine reviews and good word of mouth. It just didn't catch on, the same thing happened with Prey.

This series has atrocious AI and the stealth/combat is also just abysmal. So is the story. The setting and lore is amazing though, but they kind of ruined it in 2.

Did they change writers between games as removing a character because you wrote him as a peeping tom and years later you're ashamed of it is dumb as fuck.

youtube.com/watch?v=VvkRANqtQjI&t=18s
They fucked up the movement and it didn't feel as nice and smooth as the first game, besides it also has a lot of problems in pc when it came out

Do they really make a big point of the pacifist run being canon? I was planning to start the second game soon, but that would be a bit annoying since I liked to play semi-lethal in the first one.
