Why there are no good superman games?
Why there are no good superman games?
The Genesis game is alright.
Because he's a shitty gay character that sucks
No creative minds. They were ablw to break the Batman and Spiferman barrier though wonder Woman can literally be a God Of War like game
Its ok for you to project user
how do you add challenge to a game about a person thats literally fucking invulnerable and unstoppable.
either you have some gay restriction that removes that and thus defeats the purpose of the character, or its completely devoid of any difficulty
you COULD manage, but you'd end up so removed from superman's skillset that you may as well have made it about a different character. he'd be better suited as a gag 'easy mode' character for another character's game
Same reason there’s no good Superman movies
>superman 1970
>bad
>man of steel
>bad
get some taste
Undertale is the Superman game that no AAA game can be. Whereas other games would wrench control out of the player to force pacifism, Undertale gives you absolute power through in-canon time manipulation and then asks you what you should do with it. When you achieve the pacifist ending with that power, having saved the world out of your own volition and resisting your darker urges- that's the most "Superman" I've ever felt from a game. It also helps that the game's aesthetic allows for the perfect level of darkness and humor too.
If it were up to me, I'd make a general DC game that's a full RPG centering on one dude, but only the best pacifist ending wwould allow you to take up the mantle of Superman, and in the end your player character would reveal that his name is Kal El/Clark Kent. 100% never going to happen though.
This.
IF they can make dbz games then its possible to make a superman game. Also there are different versions of supes. Like the old cartoons where he fought robots and mad scientists. Also change the objective from health (except specific bosses) to the citys health.
Superman hasent been unstoppable since the early 60s dude. Hes routinely punched out ever since the 80s to the point its a running joke that Batman can beat up Superman
Seriously, I don't get why there isn't a Wonder Woman game, considering her movie was one of the most successful ones in the DC movies so far, there is obviously mainstream interest, games like God of War and Bayonetta already did the blueprint for them, and considering the woke agenda is at full force you would think they want to make a big game with an iconic female character.
She has in canon different fighting styles and attacks that fit perfectly with video game logic, and yet it still hasn't happen.
The point is that he's only unstoppable when he isn't holding back and doesn't care about collateral damage
If you can gamify the player weakening themselves on purpose you've figured out a Superman game
>Expecting Time-Warner to ever do anything right with their IPs.
Pretty much this. The games need to be approached in a certain way and with a strong vision to be pulled off. No western dev has that.
Good thing AT&T is now in full control of the IP and actually giving a shit it seems.
It's a video game. Just give him a health bar like they do in Injustice.
>AT&T
YIKES!
How are they giving a shit? AT&T does a paltry amount of entertainment creativity outside of piggy backing on third party support.
This
I never understand this argument that Superman just can't take damage, when is routinely gets his ass kicked in all sort of media, hell, he was famously killed by a monster by giving him a beating.
This doesn't even touch all the different weaknesses the dude has like magic, kryptonite, electricity, etc.
Snyder cut, telling DC they will end their comics if they are not profitable which killed the whole 5G reboot that was going to have a tranny Wonder Woman, black Batman and other woke shit...
Which one?
Not that user but it exemplifies the problem with Superman as a videogame character.
It's not that he doesn't have runs, films or stories that can't be adapted to a videogame. Obviously he does, there's a ton of options. But the average consumer knows Superman for what he was in the Donner films and Silver Age, they want an unstoppable hero in Metropolis fighting Luthor. That's how pop culture knows him, not fighting on War World in a game with Mongul as the main villain or something. And you can't make a compelling videogame based on that version.
kryptonite particles in the air or some shit like that. things that put some restrictions on him without completely crippling him. doing missions can give him rewards that grant more immunity to the kryptonite which allows him to unlock more moves/strength and fight stronger opponents.
The game would have to take place on different planets to have him fighting strong aliens.
Or it could be all bossfights.
Open Worlds, be able to fly at any time and between planets. No flying in inside areas tho.
You're not wrong. He just needs one good movie to break that old image but it seems every executive on Earth is convinced it's impossible after the recent ones.
If they gave a fuck they would have already made arrangement to have Capcom do a Marvel vs DC game.
You either do an over the top game with superman using every single one of his skill to survive. Like a full JLA war setting.
>Wonder Woman
Agreed.
Superman stories are more about drama and people talking for extended periods of time, like a soap opera, it wouldn't translate well since you need to have constant action in these kinda games.
Why don't they have Wonder Woman do prowrestling moves all the time? It would be a nice way of add more character, maybe she became a fan when arriving to man's world, she can do all the iconic finishers.
video games tend to be power fantasy. Superman is a moral fantasy.
A Clark Kent daily planet sim would probably be more interesting
They should make it an adventure game that deals with Superman's humanity and dilemma of not being able to save everyone (maybe something more in tune with a Telltale game format)
If they can implement some power fantasy as an unstoppable 'god-mode' action gameplay.. that would be cool, but I really want to see the Clark Kent aspect in the game more than Superman.
This.
You beat me to it, user. :P
Superman. It's kinda like shinobi.
Lmao you don't believe all that bullshit my nigga
>Wonder Woman do prowrestling moves all the time?
Pinball is not video games.
In his own setting he's pretty much the most powerful thing there is, run of the mill enemies pose no real threat and only earth-shattering enemies are really worth the time to make a game about.
He's the kind of hero you throw into the situation when the darkest hour has arrived and the stakes are at their highest.
Injustice was alright.
Comics had some really fucking stupid shit in them, but had a very trainwreck quality to them.
